Play with our flagship orchestra
The SFA Symphony Orchestra offers exceptional performance opportunities to music majors, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as non-majors. Their repertoire ranges from classics of the high Baroque to the melodic complexity and chromaticism of Mahler and his contemporaries to the modern pieces of the twenty-first century.
Whatever your instrument, we aim to provide an intense, varied program to improve your playing in weekly private lessons, studio classes, full orchestra and chamber ensembles. In addition to regularly scheduled orchestra concerts and studio recitals, the School of Music holds an annual concerto competition with the winners earning their performances as soloists with the SFA Symphony Orchestra.
Graduate students can continue their studies at conservatories around the country and perform with professional orchestras such as the Longview Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Texarkana Symphony and many more!
Masterworks in intimate settings
The SFA Symphony Orchestra presents a choral/orchestral masterwork each season in collaboration with the SFA choirs. These concerts often feature SFA music faculty soloists and guest artists. Past masterworks concerts have included Verdi "Requiem," Orff's "Carmina Burana" and Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis."
Collaboration between the arts
The SFA Symphony Orchestra collaborates with the SFA Opera and School of Theatre to present a fully staged opera production each spring. Past productions have included Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro," Strauss' "Die Fledermaus" and Verdi's "La Traviata."
