Dr. Michael Murphy, conductor

The A Cappella Choir is the premier choral ensemble at SFA. With fifty-two select voices, this mixed chorus is comprised almost entirely of our highly talented, resident voice majors at SFA. This group performs a distinctive and diverse repertoire of a cappella and concerted works spanning six centuries. In the past two years, the choir has added several North American and world premieres to its growing credit.

The A Cappella Choir regularly collaborates with the Kantorei and Singin' Axes choirs and the SFA Symphony Orchestra in choral/orchestral masterworks as diverse as Handel's "Messiah" Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis", Verdi's "Requiem", Orff's "Carmina Burana" and the Southwest premiere of Richard Danielpour's "An American Requiem".

This ensemble is recognized as one of the most refined choral ensembles in the United States through guest appearances at state and national conventions including:

  • Texas Music Educators Association
  • National Association for Music Education
  • and the American Choral Directors Association.
