Opportunities beyond the classroom

Not all learning takes place in the classroom. And as a student in the Geopatial Science program, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a variety of hands-on, transformative learning activities, from paid internships and volunteer projects, to professional networking events.

Exciting internships

We encourage all geospatial science students to complete an internship during their college career. A paid internship is a great way to test out a potential employer or career path, build your professional network and even make a little extra money.

Past and current internship opportunities for geospatial science students include:

  • City planning
  • Oil and gas exploration
  • Natural resource management
  • Archeology
  • Land surveying
  • Cartography
  • Utility
  • Transportation
  • Outdoor recreation

Conferences and networking events

As a geospatial science student, you’ll have the opportunity to attend a variety of professional conferences and networking events that will help you build valuable connections and learn more about available careers and research areas in geospatial science.

Geospatial science students have presented award-winning posters at the state-wide Texas GIS Forum, and every year the Student Association of Spatial Scientists organizes SFA’s annual Geographic Information Systems day event.
