Want to learn forestry? Come to the forest.

When it comes to natural resources, it’s hard to beat SFA. We’re located in the heart of the Texas Forest Country. Our forestry students enjoy ready access to more than 12 million acres of forestlands and a variety of resources, such as the Stephen F. Austin Experimental Forest and ST Microelectronics Holdings, US Forest Service lands and much more.

SFA’s proximity to the forest means that our forestry students have plenty of opportunities to get out of the classroom and participate in transformative, hands-on research and learning opportunities. Along the way, you’ll work with dedicated, caring faculty members who truly want you to succeed.

You’ll graduate with the skills, knowledge and practical experience you need to find a rewarding career in forestry.

A message from the associate dean, Dr. Matthew McBroom

Having a career dedicated to conserving nature is one of the most rewarding pursuits that professionals can devote their lives to. The delight that comes from having the opportunity to make a difference in the natural world makes forestry an excellent career choice. Students learn by working in the outdoors in this applied STEM field and develop the expertise that is required to address the environmental challenges our world is facing. Beyond that, with near 100% employment rates, forestry is an excellent choice with regards to career prospects.

When it comes to deciding where to study forestry, SFA is the place to be. SFA has one of the largest forestry programs in North America in terms of undergraduate enrollment. Our emphasis on academic excellence paired with our being located at the ecological crossroads of North America gives students the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally.

I encourage you to explore the opportunities that are available in forestry. From wildlife management to urban forestry, SFA is the place to learn. At SFA, the outdoors is the classroom.
