SFA music faculty to present annual Pi Kappa Lambda scholarship concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Faculty members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Music Faculty Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
 
The concert highlights the talents of the diverse School of Music performing faculty, according to Dr. Jamie Weaver, associate professor of music history at SFA and president of Pi Kappa Lambda honor society. Proceeds from the concert fund scholarships for deserving SFA music majors selected by the society.

Recital features works by women for piano, flute


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Maggie Hinchliffe, staff pianist at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present a recital with guest performer Michael Alampi, flute, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches.
 
“Works by Women for Piano and Flute” will feature selections by women composers, including Anna Bon, Augusta Holmès, Valerie Coleman, Amanda Harberg and Samantha Fernando. The program was presented on a summer tour in upstate New York and Long Island. Following a Texas tour, the program will be presented in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

SFA Centennial Concert premieres work set to poems of celebrated poet Baker


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The first public performance in Stephen F. Austin State University’s newly renovated Turner Auditorium will be a concert that honors the university’s past and present and features a grandiose work inspired by the poems of  Nacogdoches’ own Karle Wilson Baker, one of Texas’ most celebrated poets in the first half of the 20th century.
 

SFA students go abroad to explore businesses in Costa Rica


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A new Stephen F. Austin State University study abroad course sponsored by the Rusche College of Business is introducing incoming first-year students and non-business majors to business concepts and principles as well as other cultures over the summer.

SFA Press hosts year-long book giveaway to celebrate centennial

SFA School of Theatre and Dance to offer exciting 2023-24 performance lineup


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Theatre and Dance at Stephen F. Austin State University has an exciting production schedule for the 2023-24 academic year that will, in part, celebrate both the 100th year of SFA and the new theatre and dance performance venues in the renovated Griffith Fine Arts Building.
 

SFA’s University Series returns with The Centennial Season


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After a three-year hiatus, the University Series at Stephen F. Austin State University will return for the 2023-24 academic year with exciting touring performances that audiences are sure to love.
 
The series, sponsored by the Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts, was suspended during the pandemic and during the renovation of the Griffith Fine Arts Building that included upgrades to William M. Turner Auditorium, home to University Series shows. 
 

SFA officially becomes 14th institution in the UT System


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Following a 13-month process that included the formation of representative input groups, the collection of community and public comment, and the filing of state legislation, Stephen F. Austin State University today officially becomes the 14th member of The University of Texas System.

The formal action of transitioning SFA into the UT System was finalized during the Aug. 24 UT Board of Regents meeting in Austin to become official Sept. 1.
