SFA art student Clews earns AAF scholarship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Shea Clews, Stephen F. Austin State University art education sophomore from Cushing, is the 2023 American Advertising Federation District 10 John Aguillard Scholarship recipient. The AAF 10th District Scholarship is designed to recognize, promote and encourage academically talented students of creative disciplines, helping them complete their education.

‘Harmony for Hope’ concert to benefit Music Prep student scholarships

Texas National exhibition showing through June 30


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Art lovers have the opportunity to visit The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches through June 30 to view winning entries in the 28th Texas National Competition and Exhibition.
 
Greenville, South Carolina, artist Aldo Muzzarelli is the first place winner in Stephen F. Austin State University’s 2023 juried show for his mixed media piece “Extemporaneous Menina Picking Up Prejudices I.”
 

Friday Night Film Series to screen student films


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will show a selection of short films by current SFA students as a feature of the Friday Night Film Series starting at 7 p.m. Friday, May 5, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.
 

SFA regents approve faculty, staff appointments


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — During its three-day quarterly meeting, the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents recognized student, faculty and staff achievements, as well as approved faculty and staff appointments.

Special recognitions
The board recognized the final four of this year’s eight President’s Achievement Award recipients: James “Eddie” Colwell, Physical Plant transportation; Chris Cotton, university archives; Kay Johnson, Procurement and Business Services; and Francisco Paco Morales, School of Music.  

SFA regents make plans for anticipated transfer to UT System


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — During its three-day quarterly meeting, the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents made plans for the anticipated passage of the bill making SFA a member of The University of Texas System.

As the regents met, Senate Bill 1055 was undergoing its second reading on the House floor of the 88th Texas Legislature in Austin. When it completes its third reading, the bill will be forwarded to Gov. Greg Abbott for signature. 

SFA art graduate Fleniken to speak at Portfolio Night


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –Stephen F. Austin State University art alumna Emily Fleniken will be the guest speaker at the School of Art’s Graphic Design Portfolio Night from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in Room B121 and the front art gallery of the Art Building off Wilson Drive on campus.
 
Fleniken, a 2013 SFA graduate, is co-owner and creative director of Lemon Seed Marketing, an agency specializing in strategy and branding for the home services industry.
 

SFA combined choirs, orchestra to perform Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The combined choirs and orchestra of Stephen F. Austin State University will present W.A. Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor when the student ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches.
 
Performing are the SFA A Cappella Choir, directed by Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities at SFA, and Kantorei and Singin’ Axes, directed by Dr. Tod Fish, associate director of choral activities, along with a student orchestra.
