NACOGDOCHES, Texas – August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece “The Piano Lesson” will be the inaugural play presented in the new Flex Theatre in Griffith Fine Arts Building on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.
Opening Sept. 28 for a four-day run, “The Piano Lesson” is described as “the play for now.”

SFA Office of International Programs to receive strategic internationalization grant
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Focused on fostering a culture of global engagement on campus, Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of International Programs received a grant to create staff member training programs meant to equip students for global challenges.
SFA alumni awards banquet to kick off Centennial Celebration Sept. 15
NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will honor nine alumni during its annual awards banquet beginning at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches. The event also begins a four-day celebration of the university’s 100th anniversary.
The SFA Alumni Awards honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and the community and who advance the goals and values of SFA.
SFA music alumna, faculty member collaborate on opera
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – It’s not unusual for those associated with Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music to unexpectedly find themselves collaborating with each other in professional settings beyond the confines of the university campus.
Just recently, Dr. Ben Morris, composition faculty in the School of Music, and Amanda Sheriff, SFA graduate and professional opera singer, worked together on the world premiere of Morris’ youth opera “The Rip Van Winkles” at the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, New York.
Inman, Cole to present recital for flute, piano
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Music by Anže Rozman, Franz Schubert and Amanda Harberg will be among the featured works in a recital showcasing the talents of Dr. Samantha M. Inman, associate professor of music theory at Stephen F. Austin State University, and Tracy Cole, piano accompanist for Lufkin ISD, First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches and the Stone Fort Chorale.
The recital is at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church at 411 North St.
SFA art students study abroad in Italy
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University students in the School of Art traveled to Florence, Siena, Arezzo and Rome, Italy, to study art first hand and develop the School of Art’s ongoing exchange program with Libera Accademia di Belle Arti (LABA), an art school in Florence.
