NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Hundreds of past, present and future Lumberjacks as well as Nacogdoches community members came to Stephen F. Austin State University Sept. 15-18 for the university’s centennial in a four-day celebration that began with an awards ceremony and ended with a cake-filled birthday party.
Award-winning pianist to present concert at SFA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Award-winning pianist Dr. Martin Kesuma will perform works by Nikolai Kapustin, Alberto Ginastera, Manuel de Falla and other varied composers when he presents a solo recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.
SFA’s Friday Night Film Series to screen ‘The Good Exorcist’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “The Good Exorcist,” a 2018 film cowritten by Josh Stifter and Daniel Degnan and directed by Stifter. The screening is at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Country music artists Pat Green and Hailey Whitters are slated to co-headline Stephen F. Austin State University’s annual Homecoming festivities at 8 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Intramural Fields, located on the corner of Starr Avenue and Wilson Drive.
SFA’s Student Activities Association is hosting the event, which brings thousands of current and former students as well as SFA supporters together in celebration.
SFA’s Mainstage Series: ‘The Piano Lesson’ teaches importance of knowing one’s history
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Almost 20 years ago, Cleo House Jr., director of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and Dance, performed the role of Boy Willie in August Wilson’s play “The Piano Lesson.” Wilson, a prolific and skillful playwright who would win two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama for his writing, attended one of the performances and autographed House’s script.
SFA Gardens’ October lecture to feature talk on landscape shrubs
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.
Dr. Allen Owings, professor emeritus of horticulture at the Louisiana State University AgCenter, will present “Common Landscape Shrubs: Varieties and Keys to Success.”
SFA dedicates new Centennial Ring Plaza during university’s Centennial Celebration
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Lumberjacks filled the corner of Alumni and Vista drives Monday as Stephen F. Austin State University staff and administrators dedicated the new Centennial Ring Plaza and its towering ring statue, adding another landmark to the already picturesque campus. The dedication was part of SFA’s four-day Centennial Celebration.
SFA centennial design contest winning merchandise available for purchase
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — To celebrate Stephen F. Austin State University’s 100 years of higher education, the Division of University Marketing Communications held the SFA centennial design contest to involve all Lumberjacks in celebrating the historic milestone.
UMC asked for artists of all ages to submit an original design using a coloring page of the centennial logo. Winning designs were turned into centennial-themed merchandise and are now available for purchase.
SFA re-opens improved Griffith Fine Arts Building, dedicates Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts
