NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The jazz bands of Stephen F. Austin State University will perform original works by SFA music faculty members, along with the music of Sammy Nestico, Duke Ellington and other jazz greats, in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, in Cole Concert Hall.
 
The Swingin’ Axes, directed by Dr. JD Salas, will perform “Ymir’s Bones” by Dr. Ben Morris, assistant professor of composition, from Morris’ debut album, "Pocket Guides," released in June 2022 on Origin/OA2 Records.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Pablo Moreno, adjunct faculty oboe instructor at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present the recital program “Rediscovered and Unearthed” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
 
Joining Moreno on the concert are colleagues Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Melissa Nabb, viola; Özge Serçeler, cello; and Dr. Minhae Lee, harpsichord.
 
The program will feature works by Wolfgang Amadeaus Mozart, Johann Gottlieb Janitsch, Simón Díaz and Chaya Czernowin.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Seats are still available for the April 26 performances of “Reading and Rhyming with Mother Goose,” a presentation of the Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts and its Children’s Performing Arts Series at Stephen F. Austin State University.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Music representing locations and composers from around the world will be performed by the Symphonic Band and University Band at Stephen F. Austin State University at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.
 
Titled “World Tour,” the concert features the University Band performing works referencing locations around the globe through titles and/or programmatic content, according to Dr. Chris Kaatz, assistant director of bands at SFA.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Student ensembles in the Sound Recording Technology program at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Banita Creek Hall.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s steel drum band will present another of its high-energy concerts at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

“The Jacks of Steel members are excited to present their spring 2023 collection of music,” said Dr. Jamie Vilseck, adjunct music faculty professor and director of the Jacks of Steel. “This concert features a collection of socas, calypsos, sambas, reggaes and pop music.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Trombone Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present classical music from three eras when the student ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 17, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
 
The program will feature works from the Renaissance era, the Classical period and the 20th century, according to Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone at SFA.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Described as "a musical about two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical," the hilarious “[title of show]” opens April 20 at Stephen F. Austin State University as the final 2022-23 Mainstage Series presentation of the School of Theater and Dance.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The 2023 Nac Short Film Festival, featuring the work of current and former Stephen F. Austin State University film students, is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. April 15 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater on the SFA campus. 

The festival focuses on independent filmmakers who create films in East Texas. During the event, attendees will vote for the Audience Choice Award, which comes with a $100 prize for the winner.
