The educational mission of SFA's School of Art is supported by professional art galleries on campus and downtown Nacogdoches.
The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House

Exhibitions are presented year-round of international, national and regional art in three main galleries over the span of two floors. A number of special events are hosted here, including the annual Texas National juried competition and exhibition. All events are free to the public.
Note: Special events must be sponsored by SFA and approved under HOP policy 05-413.
Adams Gallery

Named in honor of longtime art educator and 1979 alumnus, Teresa Jill Adams, this gallery is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building. Read more about the dedication and Adams' impact on the arts in the spring 2024 issue of Sawdust magazine.
Student Galleries
Student galleries are located in the Art Building. View the Art Building on SFA's interactive map for directions, hours and contact information.
Undergraduate and graduate art students utilize these galleries to showcase their work, including BFA capstone exhibits and MFA thesis exhibitions. These galleries also play a role in group critiques and juried exhibitions like the annual Art Alliance Spring Show.
Exhibition proposals
Exhibitions in our galleries are on view for an average of 10 weeks and held throughout the year in one of our three contemporary spaces. Artists and independent curators are invited to submit exhibition proposals throughout the year.
Submission guidelines
To be considered, you need to submit two PDF documents by emailing them together to Weelynd.McMullan@sfasu.edu with the subject line: Exhibition Proposal.
Proposal
- Create a concise exhibition proposal that includes:
- title
- scale
- concept
- and description.
- Compile 10 images or video links of work. For each piece, include:
- title
- medium
- year
- and dimensions.
