Creativity in a digital world
Through hands-on production of independent projects, students pursuing a concentration in animation learn:
- digital 3D design and modeling
- 2D and 3D animation
- visual effects
- and storyboarding.
With a strong base in observational drawing, our program also includes instruction in industry standard software programs and brand new techniques like virtual reality motion tracking.

Through hands-on production of independent projects and in collaborative teams, you’ll develop technical facility in digital imaging, sound, video, animation, media installation and the use of interactivity.
Art history, theory and contemporary issues are integrated with technical instruction. Media art is explored in relation to its history in electronic art, video art, experimental film and performance art.
Blurring the lines between traditional and digital
Students are encouraged to take an experiment approach to their artmaking. Emphasis is placed on hybrid practices that bring the digital media of animation into direct relationship with analog and/or traditional media such drawing, sculpture and filmmaking.

This degree is appropriate for those students who seek a general course of study in art with minor study in another academic area. Examples of common minors outside the School of Art for art students include general business, marketing, mass communication and creative writing.

Designed to prepare students for careers either as professional artists or advertising designers, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art degree is a professional degree program intended for students seeking more in-depth preparation.
