How to Apply to the Legislative Internship Program

Legislative Internships

Applications for LIP are typically accepted in early September during the semester before the internship.  

Successful applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Have completed at least 60 hours of course credit, including at least 15 hours at SFA
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75
  • Be enrolled full time as an SFA student
  • Be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Submit a disclosure of any violations of SFA Student Code of Conduct for verification with the Dean of Students Office

Application materials include:

  • Completed application form - Application forms may be obtained by contacting LegislativeIntern@sfasu.edu
  • Two letters of recommendation, and at least one must be from a full-time SFA faculty member
  • Writing sample
  • Academic transcript
  • Résumé
  • Passport-size photo

Once the application deadline has past, all applications will be reviewed. Finalists will be invited to an in-person, on-campus interview. Approximately five students will be awarded an internship and will begin the placement process.
