Applications for LIP are typically accepted in early September during the semester before the internship.
Successful applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Have completed at least 60 hours of course credit, including at least 15 hours at SFA
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75
- Be enrolled full time as an SFA student
- Be able to pass a criminal background check
- Submit a disclosure of any violations of SFA Student Code of Conduct for verification with the Dean of Students Office
Application materials include:
- Completed application form - Application forms may be obtained by contacting LegislativeIntern@sfasu.edu.
- Two letters of recommendation, and at least one must be from a full-time SFA faculty member
- Writing sample
- Academic transcript
- Résumé
- Passport-size photo
Once the application deadline has past, all applications will be reviewed. Finalists will be invited to an in-person, on-campus interview. Approximately five students will be awarded an internship and will begin the placement process.
