SFA Trombone Choir concert slated


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS -The Trombone Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a wide array of music during its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 12, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The 20-member choir will perform works spanning almost 400 years, some of which were originally written for a trombone ensemble and some that have been transcribed or arranged for the instrument, explained Deb Scott, SFA assistant professor of trombone and the group's director.

Guest pianist to present recital at SFA

SFA to present student-directed 'Tone Clusters'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of "Tone Clusters" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 16, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.

SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature Oregon nurseryman


The Stephen F. Austin State University Gardens will host its monthly Les Reeves Garden Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 15, in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building located on Wilson Drive on the SFA campus. Mark Krautman, owner of Heritage Seedlings, will present "Searching the World for New Plants."

Debt Week events to raise awareness of national budget issues


Stephen F. Austin State University will host a series of events to educate students and the public on national debt and budget deficit issues during "Debt Week: Spring 2010" April 12-15 on the SFA Campus.

SFA Bright Ideas Conference to highlight faculty research, scholarship and artistry


The Bright Ideas Conference highlighting faculty research, scholarship and artistry will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center at Stephen F. Austin State University.

More than 100 faculty exhibits will be on display throughout the day in the Grand Ballroom, and seven 30-minute spotlight presentations will be given in the afternoon in Regents Suites A and B. An opening session and award presentation is planned for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Nacogdoches to celebrate Week of the Young Child


Stephen F. Austin State University's Early Childhood Lab and the Greater East Texas Community Action Program Head Start invite Nacogdoches County to come together to kick off the national Week of the Young Child, April 12-16, honoring young children and all those who make a difference in children's lives.

SFA to host National Alcohol Screening Day


Stephen F. Austin State University will host National Alcohol Screening Day from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 8, on the first floor of the Human Services Building.

The screening will help participants recognize the signs of alcohol use disorders and provide information about local support and treatment. Attendees will also have the opportunity to complete a questionnaire about their alcohol use and speak privately with a mental health counselor-in-training.

The event is confidential and open to anyone. Admission is free, and refreshments will be available.

Three SFA alumni accepted to 'Texas National 2010'

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University has announced that works by three SFA alumni will be included in "Texas National 2010," which will open at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 10, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, located at 329 E. Main St. The show will run through Saturday, May 22.
