'From the Diaries of Adam and Eve' scheduled at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Recent compositions by Stephen Lias, professor of music at Stephen F. Austin State University, will be performed during "From the Diaries of Adam and Eve" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, in Cole Concert Hall.

The event's title refers to the centerpiece of the program, "a charming dramatic work about Adam and Eve for two singers and chamber ensemble with texts by Mark Twain," said Lias. "Highlighting the comic and poignant differences between the male and female viewpoints, the work will be performed by three married couples."

Historian to share personal recollections on German reunification


Ten years after the reunification of Germany, historian Bernhard Wagner will present "What Revolution Feels Like: A Personal Account of Events Leading to the Fall of the Berlin Wall" at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Wagner, historian and lead tour guide for the DDR Museum (Museum of East Germany) in Berlin, will speak of his experiences as the former East Germany ceased to exist and, in October 1990, became part of the unified Federal Republic of Germany.

Best-selling author to speak at SFA

The Office of International Programs at Stephen F. Austin State University will host a lecture by best-selling author Dinesh D'Souza at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

The topic of D'Souza's speech is "Islam and Christianity Amidst International Turmoil: Is Religion to Blame?"

SFA to stage student-directed 'Old Saybrook'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Woody Allen's "Old Saybrook" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16. All performances are in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

SFA artists included in intercollegiate exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Works by ten art metal/jewelry students from the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and their professor, Lauren McAdams, will be included in the "5th Annual Intercollegiate Metals Exhibition" hosted by Arizona State University Monday, Oct. 11, through Friday, Oct. 22.

"We are more than pleased with the invitation from ASU to be part of this wonderful event and to be exhibited alongside faculty, graduate and undergraduate artists from six leading universities in the art metal/jewelry field," said McAdams.

SFA bands to present 'The Legacy of Howard Hanson'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band in a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Titled "The Legacy of Howard Hanson," the concert celebrates one of the most important figures in American music, said Brett A. Richardson, SFA assistant director of bands. The program will include compositions by Hanson as well as by his pupils Clifton Williams and Francis McBeth.

SFA playwright's 'keepingabreast' being staged in Colorado


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Businesses package their products in pink, communities hold Race for the Cure events and people from all walks of life don pink ribbons during October. But playwright Jackie Rosenfeld, SFA visiting lecturer of theatre, offers her support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by encouraging theatre companies who produce her play "keepingabreast" to donate part of the proceeds to breast cancer research.

The Spring Ensemble Theatre in Colorado Springs, Col., is doing just that during their run of the play from Sept. 30 through Oct. 16.

SFA Wind Ensemble to present 'The Music of Michael Daugherty'


World-renowned composer Michael Daugherty will be present for the SFA Wind Ensemble's concert, "The Music of Michael Daugherty," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in W.M. Turner Auditorium as part of the SFA College of Fine Arts' University Series.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The music of one of America's most frequently heard living composers will fill W.M. Turner Auditorium as the SFA Wind Ensemble performs "The Music of Michael Daugherty" at 7:30 p.m.

SFA schedules Brazilian guitar music recital


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - New York guitarist David Burgess will present "Guitar Music of Brazil" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, as part of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series.

Praised by critics for his polished technique and flamboyant style, Burgess has performed throughout North and South America, Europe and the Far East and recorded for CBS Masterworks, Musical Heritage Society, Tritone and Athena Records. He has won prizes in international guitar competitions in New York, Mexico City, Toronto and Munich, Germany.

Parr to present faculty piano recital


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Dr. Andrew Parr, Stephen F. Austin State University professor of piano, will present "Miniature Masterpieces: Bela Bartok's Out of Doors Suite and the 24 Preludes of Frederic Chopin" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in Cole Concert Hall as part of the SFA School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series.
