Stephen F. Austin State University student Sonya Baker of Jacksonville is one of 10 students at Texas graduate social work programs to receive $50,000 in special scholarship awards honoring the 70th anniversary of the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health.
Baker has 20 years of experience as a social worker at Rusk State Hospital and in nursing homes in Chandler and Jacksonville. She has a bachelor's degree in social work and wants to earn a master's degree so she can provide more advanced mental health services in a rural setting.
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Community members attending the "12 x 12" fund-raiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will have the opportunity to purchase some great art at a bargain price, according to Christian Cutler, director of galleries at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a one-night screening of "Desdémona: A Love Story" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 9, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches as part of its monthly film series. Admission is free.
