'Pen & Pigment' exhibition features SFA student art and poetry


NACOGDOCHES - A collaborative project between Stephen F. Austin State University student writers and artists will culminate in the annual "Pen & Pigment" exhibition, which opens at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in Griffith Gallery, located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

Popular SFA Steel Band to perform spring concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Steel Band, also known as the "Jacks of Steel," will perform an exciting and diverse concert of music under the direction of Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

One of the most popular and requested ensembles in the SFA School of Music, the group is comprised of 13 members playing steel pan, ethnic percussion, drumset and bass guitar, according to Meyer.

World-famous trombonist to perform at SFA, discuss gender perspectives

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - World-famous trombonist Abbie Conant will bring her 600-pound quadraphonic sound system to the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University when she performs in concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 25, in the newly refurbished Music Recital Hall in the Wright Music Building.

Faculty organ recital to honor Bach's work

NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music faculty organist Jeremy S. Bruns will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Christ Episcopal Church in honor of the great composer Johann Sebastian Bach.

SFA music faculty talent to be showcased in recital


NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present a faculty chamber recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

The faculty ensemble will feature Emily Mitchell, harp; Christina Guenther, flute; Jeremy Fain, bassoon; Geneva Fung, piano; and Melissa Nabb, viola.

SFA choir, orchestra to perform complete Handel's 'Messiah'


The SFA A Cappella Choir, under the direction of Tim King, will perform the complete G.F. Handel's "Messiah" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in Kennedy Auditorium as part of the College of Fine Arts' University Series.

NACOGDOCHES - A first for Nacogdoches will take place when the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music present a full performance of G.F. Handel's great oratorio, "Messiah," at 7:30 p.m.

SFA to stage student-directed 'Woman and Scarecrow'


NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student production of Marina Carr's "Woman and Scarecrow" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre, located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.

SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature LSU horticulturist

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Agriculture Building, Room 110, at 1924 Wilson Drive.

SFA to host two spring graduation ceremonies


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Due to a high number of expected graduates of Stephen F. Austin State University this spring, the May 11 commencement exercises will be split into two ceremonies for the first time.

Graduates from SFA's James I. Perkins College of Education and College of Fine Arts will participate in a 9:30 a.m. ceremony that Saturday. Candidates from the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, the Nelson Rusche College of Business, the College of Liberal and Applied Arts, and the College of Sciences and Mathematics will participate in a 2 p.m. ceremony.
