SFA Gardens to host spring vegetable gardening workshop


Spring Gardening 101 will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building, 1924 Wilson Drive.

NACOGDOCES, Texas - SFA Gardens horticulturists Dawn Stover and Greg Grant will cover the ABCs of spring vegetable gardening, including soil preparation and composting along with when, where, and what to plant, at a seminar this weekend at Stephen F. Austin State University.

East Texas Research Center announces contest


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The East Texas Research Center at Stephen F. Austin State University is sponsoring the third annual "I Found it in the Archives" essay and video contest showcasing archived materials that have positively impacted people's lives.

"We're seeking entrants who have found something special in our collections - records, documents, photos, recordings, a meaningful item or treasure," said ETRC Director Linda Reynolds. "If it has meaning to you, it has meaning to us and is a wonderful basis for your entry."

SFA Gardens' Reeves Lecture Series to feature Texas A&M-Commerce Professor


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Derald Harp, Assistant Professor in Horticulture at Texas A&M University-Commerce will present "Landscape Soils-Growing from the Ground Up" at the upcoming Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series hosted by SFA Gardens.

The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 17, in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building located on Wilson Drive on the SFA campus.

Nacogdoches Naturally plans field trip to Texas Forestry Museum


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Join Nacogdoches Naturally Family Outdoor Adventures for a field trip to the Texas Forestry Museum in Lufkin on Saturday, Jan. 12.

This event provides an opportunity for families to learn about the area's rich history and to contribute to the community through an outdoor family service project at the museum. Participants will leave from the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St., at 9 a.m. and will return at approximately 1 p.m.

Schmidbauer Competition to bring musicians from around the world to SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Violinists, violists and cellists from around the world will compete for $15,000 in prize money during the George and Peggy Schmidbauer Young Artist Strings Competition presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music Saturday, Jan. 19, and Sunday, Jan. 20, on the SFA campus.

Exhibition to feature images of old, contemporary West

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Two professors in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture at Stephen F. Austin State University recently received new titles. Dr. David Kulhavy received the Lacy Hunt Professorship, and Dr. Brian Oswald received the Joe C. Denman Distinguished Professorship.
