Schmidbauer Competition winner to perform with Orchestra of the Pines


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The 2012 Schmidbauer International Young Artist Piano Competition winner will be the featured performer when Stephen F. Austin State University's flagship orchestral ensemble, the Orchestra of the Pines, presents "To Epic Firsts" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA Schools of Theatre and Art forge play-exhibition collaboration


American artist Robert Rauschenberg's "Kitty Hawk" will be among the works displayed in "Robert Rauschenberg: Four Decades of Works on Paper" opening at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Griffith Gallery in the Griffith Fine Arts Building. The play 'bobrauschenbergamerica" by Charles L. Mee opens at 7:30 p.m. the same night in W.M.

Wisely Fellow Speaker Series to feature science education director


The controversies regarding evolution and education will be the topic of Stephen F. Austin State University's 2013 Wisely Fellow Speaker Series event at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

SFA's Symphonic, University bands to present joint concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Symphonic Band and University Band in a performance titled "ICONS" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

The University Band, under the direction of Associate Director of Bands David W. Campo and graduate assistant conductor Jay Weems, will perform a wide variety of music featuring selections by composers William Owens, Pavel Tchesnokoff, Henry Fillmore and Larry Clark.

Horticulturist to discuss Italian gardens at upcoming SFA lecture


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the next installment of the Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in the Agriculture Building, Room 110, located at 1924 Wilson Drive.

Dr. Leonardi Lombardini, a Texas A&M University horticulturist, will present "Italian Gardens through Time: from Rome to the Renaissance and Beyond."

Performances will highlight SFA's percussionists


The SFA Percussion Ensemble will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA Campus.
