Begun in 2011, the annual Girl Scout STEM Day is hosted by SFA's STEM Research and Learning Center. Through hands-on learning discoveries, the event is designed for girls to cultivate an early interest in the STEM fields.

"We had approximately 65 Girl Scouts attending our annual Girl Scout STEM Day, which is an increase from 50 attendees last year," said Julie Sandifer, the SFA STEM Research and Learning Center K-12 outreach coordinator. "The theme was 'Science is my Superpower' and was designed for girls kindergarten through sixth grade."

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's School of Human Sciences is hosting a graduate studies open house from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Culinary Café, located on the SFA campus in the Education Annex, Room 121.

This event is open to the public and anyone interested in learning more about the online Master of Science in human sciences and graduate certificate program in hospitality administration. Light refreshments will be served and Dr. Richard Berry, dean of SFA's Graduate School, will speak at 4 p.m.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's hospitality administration program welcomed approximately 200 high school students to its second Cooking Up Careers event on Friday, April 15.

The event was designed to introduce SFA and the program to high school students who are interested in taking hospitality and culinary courses.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Numbers don't lie, and Stephen F. Austin State University's Gerald W. Schlief School of Accountancy continues to grow with more than 400 students enrolled in the bachelor's and master's degree programs combined and the largest graduate class in the program's history.

Dr. Treba Marsh, interim director of SFA's School of Accountancy, said the school established its graduate program more than 15 years ago, and it is "growing by leaps and bounds" with almost 100 students exclusively enrolled in that program.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - An artist's reception for Vera Barnett, whose works are showing in Stephen F. Austin State University art galleries, is scheduled for Thursday evening, April 21.

Barnett's exhibition, which features oil paintings, as well as examples of the artist's plastic models used to make her paintings, is showing through May 6 in both the Griffith Gallery on the SFA campus and in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

SFA Regent Nelda Luce Blair - an attorney and president and owner of the Blair Law Firm in The Woodlands - presented to the audience three guiding principles she said comprise some of women's "Super Natural" traits.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Saxophonist and vocalist David Caceres will join the Swingin' Axes jazz band at Stephen F. Austin State University when the Axes and Swingin' Aces perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

As a vocalist, Houston-based Caceres will perform Frank Sinatra's "Luck Be a Lady" and Michael Buble's "Can't Buy Me Love." He will sing and play on All Jarreau's "Roof Garden."
