SFA students to present during chemistry and biochemistry research symposium

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - He's green. He's lovable. He's Oil Drop Oliver, and he's helping more than 20 undergraduate Stephen F. Austin State University students increase awareness about the fuel, petrochemical and natural gas industries and the jobs and products associated with them.

Oil Drop Oliver was born at 8 a.m. on a Friday during a marketing, advertising and promotion class in SFA's Nelson Rusche College of Business. Made of felt and polyester stuffing, Oil Drop Oliver serves as a loveable character that is clean and green.

SFA researchers seek to improve understanding of forest reclamation techniques on Gulf Coast mining sites


Researchers at Stephen F. Austin State University's Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture have partnered with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement to improve coal mine reclamation by reforestation in the Western Gulf Coast region of the U.S. by comparing different reclamation approaches used in Texas and the Eastern U.S.

SFA College of Fine Arts Dean's Awards recognizes students' potential

SFA's online Bachelor of Business Administration degree program ranked as one of nation's top 50


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The online Bachelor of Business Administration degree program within Stephen F. Austin State University's Nelson Rusche College of Business is ranked among the top 50 best online undergraduate business programs in the nation, according to College Choice, an independent online publication dedicated to helping students discover the right college.

The publication recognized SFA as the 28th best program in the nation based on the university's reputation and affordability.

Program to feature music for clarinet, bassoon, piano


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Clarinetist Dr. Mary Druhan will perform in a trio concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the Music Recital Hall in the Wright Music Building on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Druhan, associate professor of clarinet at Texas A&M University Commerce, will be joined by TAMU-Commerce colleague Dr. Luis Sanchez, piano, and Dr. Sue Barber, professor of bassoon at James Madison University, when they present works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Julius Fucik, Karl Goepfart and Mikhail Glinka.

Girl Scout STEM Day at SFA


Begun in 2011, the annual Girl Scout STEM Day is hosted by SFA's STEM Research and Learning Center. Through hands-on learning discoveries, the event is designed for girls to cultivate an early interest in the STEM fields.

"We had approximately 65 Girl Scouts attending our annual Girl Scout STEM Day, which is an increase from 50 attendees last year," said Julie Sandifer, the SFA STEM Research and Learning Center K-12 outreach coordinator. "The theme was 'Science is my Superpower' and was designed for girls kindergarten through sixth grade."

SFA's School of Human Sciences to host graduate studies open house


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's School of Human Sciences is hosting a graduate studies open house from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Culinary Café, located on the SFA campus in the Education Annex, Room 121.

This event is open to the public and anyone interested in learning more about the online Master of Science in human sciences and graduate certificate program in hospitality administration. Light refreshments will be served and Dr. Richard Berry, dean of SFA's Graduate School, will speak at 4 p.m.

SFA's hospitality administration program's second Cooking Up Careers event proves successful


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's hospitality administration program welcomed approximately 200 high school students to its second Cooking Up Careers event on Friday, April 15.

The event was designed to introduce SFA and the program to high school students who are interested in taking hospitality and culinary courses.
