College of Fine Arts awards first community-established endowed professorship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts' Dean's Circle will bestow the first-ever community-established endowed professorship at SFA when the annual Dean's Awards are presented at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

SFA's Gerald W. Schlief School of Accountancy expanding with students, academic opportunities


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Numbers don't lie, and Stephen F. Austin State University's Gerald W. Schlief School of Accountancy continues to grow with more than 400 students enrolled in the bachelor's and master's degree programs combined and the largest graduate class in the program's history.

Dr. Treba Marsh, interim director of SFA's School of Accountancy, said the school established its graduate program more than 15 years ago, and it is "growing by leaps and bounds" with almost 100 students exclusively enrolled in that program.

Brazilian musicians to perform in free concert at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Two Brazilian musicians will hold a free public performance at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 21, as part of an educational trip to the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Artist's reception slated for Barnett exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - An artist's reception for Vera Barnett, whose works are showing in Stephen F. Austin State University art galleries, is scheduled for Thursday evening, April 21.

Barnett's exhibition, which features oil paintings, as well as examples of the artist's plastic models used to make her paintings, is showing through May 6 in both the Griffith Gallery on the SFA campus and in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Tables decorated in purple and white and adorned with science-related centerpieces were packed last week during the second annual Stephen F. Austin State University Women in STEM Luncheon and Style Show in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

SFA Regent Nelda Luce Blair - an attorney and president and owner of the Blair Law Firm in The Woodlands - presented to the audience three guiding principles she said comprise some of women's "Super Natural" traits.

SFA's Swingin' Axes, Aces jazz bands to perform


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Saxophonist and vocalist David Caceres will join the Swingin' Axes jazz band at Stephen F. Austin State University when the Axes and Swingin' Aces perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

As a vocalist, Houston-based Caceres will perform Frank Sinatra's "Luck Be a Lady" and Michael Buble's "Can't Buy Me Love." He will sing and play on All Jarreau's "Roof Garden."

SFA's hospitality administration, visual impairment programs to host 'Dining in the Dark'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's hospitality administration and visual impairment programs are hosting "Dining in the Dark" from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Nacogdoches County Civic Center to raise awareness about visual impairment.

The event is a sensory encounter designed to prompt blindfolded guests to use their senses beyond vision throughout a four-course meal. It also will feature a cocktail hour and silent auction. Every table will have an ambassador from the visual impairment program to assist guests.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's School of Human Sciences faculty and staff members recognized dozens of students during its annual Honors Convocation Tuesday, April 12, on the university's campus.

"This convocation recognizes student excellence and scholastic achievement and acknowledges an outstanding alumni," said Dr. Lynda Martin, director of the School of Human Sciences.
