SFA's online public administration master's degree program ranked third best in the nation by GradSchoolHub.com


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's online Master of Public Administration was ranked third out of the top 30 programs offered nationally based on its affordability and recognition, according to a recent release by GradSchoolHub.com.

SFA mass communication, art and music students create ad campaign for Snapple


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Classes across the Stephen F. Austin State University campus collaborated during the course of several months to produce an entry for the National Student Advertising Competition, which took place this month.

Sponsored by the American Advertising Federation, the annual program challenges college students to create an integrated marketing campaign for a specific product, service or brand.

SFA senior receives Olds Family Outstanding Student Teacher Award


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University senior Brooke Taylor-Johnson received the Olds Family Student Teacher Award, which honors an exemplary student teacher from SFA's Department of Elementary Education each semester.

University field supervisor Maryann Bentley nominated Nacogdoches native Taylor-Johnson for the honor, and a committee of six SFA elementary education faculty members, who reviewed teaching videos and additional nomination materials, selected her to receive the award.

SFA's Latin Lumberjacks to celebrate Cinco de Mayo


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Latin Lumberjacks ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with an outdoor concert from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in the plaza outside the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

The Latin Lumberjacks is comprised of members of the Sound Recording Technology program within the SFA School of Music. Directed by Luigi Lazareno, music faculty member, the group will perform a variety of popular songs in salsa style.

Stephen F. Austin State University's Phi Beta Lambda sweeps state conference, 13 students qualify for nationals


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Members of Stephen F. Austin State University's professional business student organization, Phi Beta Lambda, won 13 first-place awards in various competitions during the recent 2016 PBL State Leadership Conference in Dallas.

In addition to their record-breaking number of awards, 13 students qualified for the annual National Leadership Conference in multiple events, which Henry Dunn, PBL faculty adviser and lecturer of general business at SFA, said is the university's largest qualifying group in the organization's history.

SFA's Choral Masterworks Series to present 'An American Requiem'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the annual Choral Masterworks Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Under the direction of Dr. Tim King, director of choral studies at SFA, the A Cappella Choir, Choral Union, Women's Chorus and the Orchestra of the Pines will perform "An American Requiem" by Richard Danielpour. Guest soloists will be SFA alumni Erin Roth, mezzo-soprano; Richard Novak, tenor; and Casey Jones Parrish, baritone.

SFA students studying German create virtual museum projects


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Immersion is said to be one of the best ways to learn any language. Stephen F. Austin State University undergraduate students studying German are bringing that adage into the 21st century as they create virtual museums for display on iPads and tablets examining German cultural history from 1942 to 1990.

SFA bands to present annual 'Concert in the Park'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University bands will present the annual "Concert in the Park" at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, on the lawn in front of the Wright Music Building.

Performing will be the University Band and the Symphonic Band, both directed by Dr. James Dreiling, acting assistant director of bands at SFA; the Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Tamey Anglley, acting associate director of bands; and the Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. David Campo, acting director of bands while Fred J. Allen is on spring sabbatical.
