Being a theatre or dance major at SFA is an intense and rewarding experience. If you're prepared to balance excellence in production with rigorous academic work and abundant friendships, then we hope you'll want to join us. We welcome people of all backgrounds as both first-time first-year students and transfers from other schools.

A message from the director, Cleo House-Keller

Whether you desire to perform on stage or in film, direct, write plays, choreograph productions, or design scenery, lighting, sound and costumes, the School of Theatre and Dance can provide you with the inspiration and instruction to set you on a successful career path.

You'll find our faculty and staff to be well-versed in all areas of theatre and dance, bringing years of real-world experience to the classroom.

We offer numerous opportunities for student involvement in performing, producing and designing or in technical theatre. We're an active and forward-thinking school offering more than 15 events and performances a year, including faculty and student-led productions and danceworks concerts. You'll find yourself immersed in a range of work that includes musical theatre, classic and contemporary plays from around the globe, and dance from a variety of social and cultural traditions, with opportunities to perform starting your first term on campus.

Our students range from individuals who come to SFA with many credits to those just entering the performing arts. Audition or interviews are required for entrance into theatre; dance majors must submit a video displaying technique (jazz, ballet and modern) for placement.

We welcome students from all walks of life, and we believe that every student can be a valuable contributor to their art form. If you're a student who wishes to become a well-rounded artist, we are eager to prepare you for employment in dance choreography, live theatre, dance or theatre education, entertainment, media or other arts and related businesses.

I invite you to look through our website to learn more about our programs and to get a greater sense of who we are and what we value. My office is open to you and visitors who wish to talk about the work that we do.
