Helping Lumberjacks stay safe if they choose to drink alcohol
When you're going out with friends, it's important to follow three safety measures of the buddy system and ACT:
- Agree to stay with your buddy.
- Check in with your buddy regularly.
- Take charge to return home together.
What can you do to be proactive?
Before you go out:
- charge your phone
- eat
- set a limit on how much you'll consume
- designate a buddy with whom you'll ACT
- and plan a safe ride home for you and your buddy.
While you're out:
- consider abstaining from drinking alcohol
- alternate nonalcoholic beverages with alcoholic beverages
- reduce drinking games
- check in with your buddy regularly
- be receptive to friends who tell you that you've had enough
- pace drinks to one or fewer per hour
- and return home with your buddy with a designated driver.
