Helping Lumberjacks stay safe if they choose to drink alcohol

When you're going out with friends, it's important to follow three safety measures of the buddy system and ACT:

  • Agree to stay with your buddy.
  • Check in with your buddy regularly.
  • Take charge to return home together.

What can you do to be proactive?

Before you go out:

  • charge your phone
  • eat
  • set a limit on how much you'll consume
  • designate a buddy with whom you'll ACT
  • and plan a safe ride home for you and your buddy.

While you're out:

  • consider abstaining from drinking alcohol
  • alternate nonalcoholic beverages with alcoholic beverages
  • reduce drinking games
  • check in with your buddy regularly
  • be receptive to friends who tell you that you've had enough
  • pace drinks to one or fewer per hour
  • and return home with your buddy with a designated driver.
