Exemption: The preceptor or preceptor's child may receive up to $500 or actual tuition, whichever is less.

Duration of Exemption:

  • Preceptor: as long as they meet program requirements
  • Preceptor's child: up to 10 full terms or until they receive their bachelor's degree.

Eligibility

Eligible students for the Exemption Program for Children of Professional Nursing Faculty and Staff award are those who:

  • is a resident of Texas
  • has not yet earned a bachelor's degree
  • is enrolled at SFA, where their parent is currently employed full-time or contracted, either as a professional nursing faculty or staff member and will continue to be employed or contracted in the term for which the exemption is sought.
  • and registers for the Selective Service (or is exempt from this requirement).

Additionally, at the beginning or during the semester or other academic term for which an exemption is sought, the student's parent must:

  • hold a master's or doctoral degree in nursing
    • and be employed full-time by SFA's DeWitt School of Nursing with duties that include teaching, performing research, serving as an administrator or performing other professional services other than serving as a teaching assistant.
  • or hold a bachelor's degree in nursing
    • and be employed by SFA's DeWitt School of Nursing as a full-time teaching assistant.

Continuation requirements

If on the completion of any semester or term you fail to meet the GPA requirements described in SFA's policy regarding eligibility for financial aid or have reached the excessive hour rule limits, you may not receive the exemption for the next semester or term in which you enroll.

Complete and upload the preceptors exemption application and a copy of the agreement under which the preceptor is employed using the directions below. When prompted, select "Preceptor Nurses Exemption."
