NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen” nightly through Saturday, April 1, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. Veronica Stovich, senior voice student from Texas City, performs the role of Micaela. “Carmen” is the story of an entrancing and free-spirited girl and the inexorable impact of fate. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students and youth.
SFA theatre students make history at KCACTF
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Theatre majors from Stephen F. Austin State University made history recently as the first SFA student representatives to be selected to attend and perform at the national level of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. The students took top honors at the Region 6 KCACTF event in Abilene.
“I am overjoyed,” said Cleo House Jr., director of the SFA School of Theatre and Dance. “These students are proof that when you put in the work and have commitment to the craft, that the sky is the limit.”
SFA students to host Plants and Pancakes at the Plantery
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s horticulture program and the Horticulture Club will host Plants and Pancakes from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 1, at the Plantery, located at 1924 Wilson Dr.
Plants available for purchase include a variety of edibles, annuals, houseplants and succulents. Pancakes will be free, but a donation is encouraged.
Cross-disciplinary effort by SFA faculty and staff leads to creation of Parkinson’s disease support group
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Faculty and staff from several Stephen F. Austin State University programs worked together to create the Nacogdoches Parkinson’s Support Group, which will meet once a month at Christ Episcopal Church, located at 1430 Mound St.
The first meeting is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 13, with the group set to meet on the second Thursday of the month moving forward. Those diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease as well as their loved ones are invited to the meetings.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. April 13 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.
Dawn Stover, a study leader at the East Texas Plant Materials Center within the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, will present "Finding the Ephemeral: Chasing Elusive Botanical Treasures of East Texas.”
SpringFest to offer ticket giveaways, provide accessibility measures
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University will hold a ticket giveaway for its upcoming SpringFest concert, which will be hosted by the Student Activities Association and will feature Jamaican-American hip-hop artist Sean Kingston.
The SAA is also taking steps to make the event accessible to all attendees, including having sign language interpreters onsite throughout the performance.
Friday Night Film Series to present ‘The Bell Affair’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “The Bell Affair,” a film by Kwakiutl Dreher, William Thomas III and Michael Burton. The screening is at 7 p.m. Friday, April 7, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.
SFA to present student-directed ‘Sagittarius Ponderosa’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and Dance will present the student-directed full-length play “Sagittarius Ponderosa" by MJ Kaufman at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 31, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.
Georgia Museum of Art’s Eiland to serve as Texas National juror
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Author and educator William Underwood Eiland will serve as juror for the 28th Texas National, Stephen F. Austin State University’s acclaimed art competition and exhibition, which opens April 14 and runs through June 30 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
