SFA’s Dr. David Creech to be SFA Gardens’ December lecture series speaker


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. 

Dr. David Creech, SFA Gardens director and professor emeritus of agriculture, will present “How Many Japanese Maples Are Enough? Well, It Depends on Who You Ask.”

SFA’s Dr. Sara Parks tabbed as chapter co-author in book about environmental action


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Dr. Sara Parks, assistant professor and coordinator of technical writing in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of English and Creative Writing, has co-authored a chapter in the upcoming book titled “Technical Communication for Environmental Action.” 

SFA announces intention to affiliate with The University of Texas System


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — After a comprehensive process evaluating affiliation with a university system, including responses and feedback from student, faculty, staff and alumni stakeholder groups, as well as the general public, the SFA Board of Regents voted during its special meeting today to accept the invitation of The University of Texas System to become a member institution. 

In addition, the board approved a waiver of its rules regarding selection of the next SFA president so the search can begin under the presidential selection rules of the UT System Board of Regents.

SFA choirs present ‘Seasonal Celebration’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The choirs of Stephen F. Austin State University will ring in the holidays with a "Seasonal Celebration," a program of beloved Christmas carols and classics, in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Charter for SFA Charter School renewed for another decade


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The charter for the Stephen F. Austin State University Charter School was recently renewed for another 10 years by the Texas Education Agency. The renewal term — the result of a painstaking process by the school’s staff members and meticulous review by the SFA Charter School board and Office of the General Counsel — begins July 31 and runs through July 31, 2033.
 
This is the school’s second charter renewal.
 

SFA’s Dr. Bailey Thompson selected as scholar for fraternity and sorority research and reform


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Dr. Bailey Thompson, assistant professor of advertising and public relations in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Mass Communication, was selected as a 2022-23 scholar for the Timothy J. Piazza Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research and Reform.

SFA alum and groundbreaking tax attorney to deliver December commencement addresses


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Emily Parker, a prominent tax attorney and Stephen F. Austin State University alumna, will deliver the commencement address during all three of the university’s graduation ceremonies Dec. 9 and 10. 

Tourism summit focused on East and Central Texas set for Nov. 30


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Texas Rural Travel and Small Business Social Media Summit, co-sponsored by Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Human Sciences, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 30 virtually via Zoom.

SFA’s Electric Guitar Ensemble to perform


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Electric Guitar Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in the Music Recital Hall, Wright Music Building, on the SFA campus.

‘Stars of Tomorrow’ program features SFA Concerto/Aria Competition winners


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University will showcase the 2022 SFA Concerto/Aria Competition winners in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
