Choreography involves more than dance in SFA's summer theatre season

SFA summer theatre season runs for two more weeks


SFA theatre students cast in "Schoolhouse Rock Live! Too" greet young audience members after the performance. The children's musical is one three shows being presented during the SFA School of Theatre's Summer Repertory season that continues through Saturday, July 18.

SFA Garden Seminar to Feature Garden Writer Jeff Abt on Lawn Care


If your lawn is thin, parched or weedy, plan to attend the Stephen F. Austin State University Mast Arboretum's Gardener seminar Saturday July 11. Local photographer and garden columnist Jeff Abt will present "Taking Care of Your Turfgrass" and will explain how to create and maintain a beautiful lawn in the difficult East Texas climate.

The workshop will be from 9 a.m. until noon in room 118 of the Agriculture building on Wilson Drive on the SFA campus. The cost for the seminar is $20 for members of the Friends of the SFA Gardens and $25 for non members.

SFA's '12 x 12' offers local art at bargain prices


These three original artworks are among the 50 pieces that will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis during the concluding party of "12 x 12" from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. Proceeds will be used for scholarships benefiting SFA visual arts students.

SFA professor honored for distance education efforts

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Paige Mask, assistant professor of human services at Stephen F. Austin State University, recently was recognized as an outstanding instructor in distance learning by the Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges and Universities.

Summer season includes professor's final SFA scenic designs


The cast of "Picnic" rehearses a scene in front of one of the last two sets SFA Associate Professor Tomy Matthys has designed for the university. Matthys will retire this summer after 44 years and over 400 theatrical productions at SFA. Patrons attending Friday and Saturday's productions of "Picnic" in W.M. Turner Auditorium can view over 20 of his scenic design models that will be on display in the lobby.

SFA Mast Arboretum Lecture Series To Feature Hummingbird Expert

The Stephen F. Austin State University Mast Arboretum will host its monthly Les Reeves Garden Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 16, in room 110 of the Agriculture Building on Wilson Drive on the SFA campus.

Two theatre shows open

Local artists' work available through SFA fund-raiser


Local artists' 12-inch-square artwork that is included in the SFA School of Art's "12 x 12" scholarship fund-raiser will be on display at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches Friday, July 3, through Friday, July 10. Summer hours are 12:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Over 50 pieces by community artists and SFA faculty members and graduate students will be displayed anonymously and available for pre-sale through Friday, July 10, at a cost of $250 each.

SFA to present screening of 'Roadsworth'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will present a free one-night film screening of "Roadsworth: Crossing the Line" at 7 p.m. Friday, July 3, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.
