SFA presents acclaimed soprano in Americana concert


Soprano Twyla Robinson will open the SFA College of Fine Arts' 2009-2010 University Series with a program of Americana songs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Internationally acclaimed soprano Twyla Robinson will present a wide selection of songs by American composers as she opens the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts' 2009-2010 University Series at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets on sale for SFA fine arts fund-raiser

SFA, Chamber plan "Back Lot Bash" for freshmen


Stephen F. Austin State University students take part in the 2008 "Back Lot Bash" following Freshman Convocation. This year's event is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3.

The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and Stephen F. Austin State University will welcome the SFA Class of 2013 at the annual "Back Lot Bash" Thursday, Sept. 3, behind the William R. Johnson Coliseum.

 

SFA to offer children's paper sculpture class


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will again be offering art workshops for area 6- to 12-year-olds from 2 to 4 p.m. once a month at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Registrations are now being accepted for this year's first Creative Art Saturday to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. Participants will create paper art sculptures under the direction of SFA art faculty members Dr. Marsha Blount and Matthew Sutherlin. Assisting them will be SFA art and education majors.

SFA prepares for flu season


Along with the start of a new academic year, Stephen F. Austin State University officials are planning for an active flu season. Many colleges and universities across the country have reported cases of the flu on their campuses. SFA to screen 'Breaking the Maya Code'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will present a free one-night film screening of "Breaking the Maya Code" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

"Breaking the Maya Code" traces the 200-year struggle to decipher the ancient Maya hieroglyphic script and thereby unlock the secrets of one of mankind's greatest civilizations, explained Christian Cutler, director of the SFA galleries.

SFA children's series tickets now on sale


Garry Krinsky will open the 2009-2010 season of the Stephen F. Austin State University Chidren's Performing Arts Series with his "Toying with Science" show. Season and single event tickets are now on sale.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Science, literature and history lessons are all included in the five productions comprising the 2009-2010 Stephen F. Austin State University Children's Performing Arts Series.

SFA faculty member's nature-based art exhibition to open


"The Birds and the Bees" by SFA Assistant Professor of Art Michelle Rozic is included in "Michelle Rozic: Ecotone," which will open at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, in the Reavley Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

Single tickets for SFA's University Series on sale Monday


Single tickets for the Jan. 29 performance by Liverpool Legends, the "Ultimate Beatles Tribute Show," will go on sale through the SFA Fine Arts Box Office Monday, Aug. 17. Patrons can also purchase single tickets to any other of the events included in SFA's 2009-2010 University Series. Season ticket packages, which offer a 25 percent savings, are also still available.

SFA's chamber music festival closes Sunday
