Argentinean trombone quartet to perform at SFA


The Viento Sur Trombone Quartet of Argentina will present a free recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Viento Sur Trombone Quartet from Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in Cole Concert Hall.

SFA to open 'Burnley-Schol Studios' exhibition


"Imagination," a linocut print from Don R. Schol's "Moonstruck" series is one of the pieces included in the "Burnley-Schol Studios" exhibition, which the SFA School of Art is presenting Oct. 9 through Dec. 5 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Linocut prints and drawings by Don R. Schol and paintings by Pam Burnley-Schol will be available for viewing in the Reavley Gallery of Stephen F.

SFA children's series to present 'Toying with Science'

SFA to host local writers for Fall Reading Series


The Department of English at Stephen F. Austin State University will host poets Andrew Brininstool and Kimberly Verhines during its Fall Reading Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the Liberal Arts North Building, Room 102.

SFA School of Theatre to open psychological thriller


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Although the run dates for the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's production of Georg Büchner's "Woyzeck" are Tuesday, Oct. 6, through Saturday, Oct. 10, the play's storyline makes it appropriate fare for a Halloween weekend.

Through a series of brief vignettes, the German playwright reveals the title character's descent into madness while he is serving as a human subject in a psychological/medical case study, explained Dr. Rick Jones, SFA associate professor of theatre and the play's director.

SFA to screen 'Young @ Heart'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free one-night film screening of "Young @ Heart" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

The 107-minute film documents almost two months of rehearsal for the Young @ Heart Chorus, a group of two dozen seniors who specialize in reinterpreting rock, punk and R & B classics from a unique perspective.

SFA to hold auditions for children's choir


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will hold auditions for a children's chorus that will be incorporated into SFA's presentation of Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Hodie" on December 11.

Auditions will begin at 4 p.m. in Room 125 of the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building on the SFA campus. Parents can call (936) 468-4602 to schedule an audition time.

SFA to offer children's ceramics class


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for a ceramics class offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main Street in downtown Nacogdoches as part of the Creative Art Saturday program.

Under the guidance of and SFA Assistant Professor Marsha Blount and art education majors, participants will construct ceramic bowls that will be used in conjunction with Bowls of Hope, the annual charity drive benefiting H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Eat).

SFA's Orchestra of the Pines to present 'Inspirational Sounds' concert

SFA to present guest saxophone quartet and guest tuba recitals


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present two guest artist recitals in Cole Concert Hall during the final week of September.

The Dallas Saxophone Quartet, composed of four SFA alumni, will perform at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, and guest tubist Angelo Manzo will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30. Both recitals are free and open to the public.
