SFA choirs to present 'Times and Seasons' concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Choral Union and Women's Choir of Stephen F. Austin State University will present a joint concert, "Times and Seasons," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Under the baton of David Howard, SFA associate director of choirs, the two ensembles will open the concert with J.S. Bach's cantata "God's Time Is the Best Time," featuring guest vocalists Debbie Berry, soprano; Kimberly LaGraff, alto; Bruce Fowler, tenor; and Scott LaGraff, bass.

SFA School of Art to host a 'Craft Uprising'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will host a two-part "Craft Uprising" Nov. 6 and 7 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

Events include a free film screening of "Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY, Art, Craft and Design" at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and a craft sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Enrollment in SFA ROTC on the rise


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Expanded recruiting efforts have resulted in higher enrollment in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps at Stephen F. Austin State University. Enrollment in the Lumberjack Battalion is up 30 percent from last fall, according to Lt. Col. Todd Reichert, SFA professor of military science.

SFA to stage student-directed "Frenzy for Two or More'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Eugene Ionesco's "Frenzy for Two or More" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. All shows are in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

In this comic one act, a couple cursed with the inability to understand one another engage in a bitter lovelorn spat. The play is best suited for adults, according to director Austin Chason, Spring senior.

Guest wind quintet to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Category 5, a wind quintet comprised of faculty members from the University of Southern Mississippi, will present a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, in Cole Concert Hall. The free concert is a joint presentation of the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music.

SFA Percussion Ensemble concert scheduled


The SFA Percussion Ensemble will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thuursday, Nov. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Percussion Ensemble will present its annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. The group will present works from a wide variety of percussion and musical styles.

SFA to offer children's drawing class


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for a perspective drawing class offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House as part of the Creative Art Saturday program.

Under the guidance of SFA Assistant Professor Marsha Blount and art education majors, participants will view thought-provoking artwork by the surrealist artist René Magritte and then create a surreal perspective drawing by juxtaposing ordinary objects in unusual contexts to create a landscape.

Mata Ortiz artists bring pottery to SFA


Mata Ortiz pottery such as this example will be exhibited at SFA's The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House Tuesday, Oct. 27, through the month of November. Two artists from Chihuahua, Mexico, who specialize in this art form will present a public lecture on their work at 4:45 p.m. Oct.

SFA faculty to present flute concertos recital


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty members Christina Guenther, flute, and James Pitts, piano, will present a recital of flute concertos at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The duo will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Concerto in D Major" and Carl Nielsen's "Concerto for Flute."

SFA to screen 1961 'The Mask'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As a kick off to the Halloween weekend, the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will present a free one-night film screening of the 1961 Canadian horror film "The Mask" at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.
