Local artists' work available through 'Hooked on Art' scholarship


The public will have its first opportunity on Saturday, Nov. 14, to see the 20 ornaments to be sold during the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts' 2009 "Hooked on Art" fund-raiser. The exhibition of original works of art by local artists will be on display at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House through the event's closing reception on Friday, Dec. 4.

SFA Gardens to host bird watching seminar

The Stephen F. Austin State University Pineywoods Native Plant Center will host a two-part garden seminar, "How to Identify and Attract a Flock of Backyard Birds," with a lecture from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, and hands-on, bird-watching activities from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.

SFA orchestra to present concert

SFA children's series to present musical, 'Laura Ingalls Wilder'

Austin State University's Children's Performing Arts Series will present at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

SFA to stage Shakespeare's romance 'Twelfth Night'

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Jeffrey Thiebert of the Concord Coalition, a Washington, D.C., think tank, will visit Stephen F. Austin State University Tuesday, Nov. 3, to discuss the national debt and the budget deficit.

Animal cloning and genetic modification to be subject of SFA Burr Lecture

R.W. Steen Library to conduct survey


The Ralph W. Steen Library is conducting a Web-based library survey to obtain feedback from the university community regarding the quality of its services. The survey will be conducted from Nov. 9 through Dec. 9, and the results will help the library to identify best practices, analyze deficits and effectively allocate resources to develop services that better meet users' expectations.

SFA to host Pulitzer Prize finalist for Fall Reading Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas-The Department of English at Stephen F. Austin State University will host author Lee Martin during its Fall Reading Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in the Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

Martin is the author of the novel "The Bright Forever," a finalist for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction. He also has written "River of Heaven," "Quakertown" and the forthcoming "Break the Skin." Martin has published two memoirs, "From Our House" and "Turning Bones," as well as a short story collection, "The Least You Need to Know."
