Avoid parking problems at SFA's 'Great Russian Nutcracker'


Tickets are still available for the world-renowned Moscow Ballet's performances of "Great Russian Nutcracker" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, and Friday, Dec. 18, in W.M.Turner Auditorium as an Encore Event to the SFA College of Fine Arts' University Series.

SFA offers new doctorate program in school and behavioral psychology


Andrea Goodwin, a 2005 graduate of Hallsville High School, is enrolled in Stephen F. Austin State University's new graduate program in school and behavioral psychology. The program prepares students to become educators, researchers and practitioners in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals and mental health facilities.

SFA Gardens to host holiday decorations workshop


Participants at a Stephen F. Austin State University Mast Arboretum workshop will learn how to create popular traditional holiday decorations and will have the opportunity to create fresh evergreen wreaths and magnolia garlands of their own during a workshop led by SFA horticulturist Dawn Stover.

The workshop is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 12. The cost of the class is $20 for Friends of the SFA Gardens members and $30 for non-members. Seminar space is limited, so advance registration is required.

SFA Music Preparatory recitals scheduled


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Students enrolled in private and group lessons offered by the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will perform in a series of end-of-the-semester recitals in mid-December.

Piano students of Stephen Adams and Erin Tang will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in the Prep Performance Hall located in the new Music Prep House, 3028 Raguet St.

Christmas concert features SFA and Nacogdoches, Lufkin high school


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The combined choirs from Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches and Lufkin High Schools, and the SFA Music Preparatory Children's Choir will join with SFA's Orchestra of the Pines to present Ralph Vaughan Williams' Christmas cantata "Hodie" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus. The ballet is an Encore Event to the SFA College of Fine Arts' University Series and is sponsored in part by Lehmann Eye Center.

Two faculty members of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture will be honored for outstanding achievement at the Stephen F. Austin State University Foundation's 21st annual Gala on Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

'Jacks advance in playoffs, will face No. 1 seeded Montana Saturday


The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team recorded its first postseason victory since the 1995 season with a 44-33 win over Eastern Washington Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs.

The `Jacks took an 11-point lead into the locker room at halftime, and exploded in the second half. Junior quarterback Jeremy Moses guided SFA to back-to-back touchdowns to give SFA a commanding a 37-12 lead with 5:54 remaining in the quarter. The `Jacks pushed their advantage to 25 points before the Eagles mounted a rally late in the third quarter.
