SFA to stage student-directed 'Art'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Yazim Reza's "Art" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 30, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

SFA music faculty to present chamber music 'Coleidoscope'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Members of the Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty will present music by Stefan Cwik, Darius Milhaud, Ferenc Farkas and others during "Coleidoscope" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

"The recital's title reflects my colleagues and my wish to honor our invaluable patrons, Ed and Gwen Cole, during this kaleidoscope of chamber music," said cellist Dr. Evgeni Raychev, the event's organizer.

Flute and guitar duo to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Caliendo Barcellona Flute Guitar Duo will present a guest artist recital at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, in the Music Recital Hall as part of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series.

"The program will be a thrilling synthesis of composer/guitarist Christopher Caliendo's world music," said SFA Associate Professor of Music Christina Guenther. "His compositions encompass a variety of genres, including tango, gypsy, flamenco, jazz, classical, samba and bossa nova."

Visiting artist to present free lecture at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will present an artist lecture by Vincent Falsetta, professor of painting and drawing at the University of North Texas, at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, in the Art Building, Room 106. Admission is free and open to the public.

Eight of Falsetta's paintings are currently on display at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches as part of the "Silent Transmissions" exhibition, which will run through Saturday, March 31.

SFA Steel Band to perform

SFA Athletics program to benefit military veterans


Stephen F. Austin State University student Andy Collins recently tried out caps for sale locally that benefit Operation Hat Trick, a national program created at the University of New Hampshire to memorialize Nate Hardy and Mike Koch, two U.S. Navy SEALs who died in Iraq in 2008.

Student life depicted in SFA theatre's original 'Purple Daze'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Since January, 15 Stephen F. Austin State University theatre students and their directors have been collaborating on the script, rehearsing lines and perfecting musical numbers for the upcoming performances of "Purple Daze: A Student's Guide to Surviving Four (or More) Years At SFA."

The (New) Original Cast, the School of Theatre's musical cabaret troupe, will present the play at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23; at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25. All shows are in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.
