Former SFA band director to guest conduct


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Dr. Kevin Sedatole, former band director at Stephen F. Austin State University, will return to campus to guest conduct the SFA Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, in Cole Concert Hall.

Sedatole is one of five guest conductors who will be leading the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony during the concert, which precedes the SFA bands' annual conducting symposium the next day.

Sedatole, who taught at SFA from 1991 to 1996, will be the clinician. He is currently director of bands and chair of the conducting area at Michigan State University.

Poetry and music education topic of free lecture


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Mark E. Turner, associate professor of elementary music education for Stephen F. Austin State University, will deliver a lecture, "Rhythm, Language and Meaning: Expanding on the Research of Daniel Levitin," from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, March 23, in the Music Recital Hall (Room 160) of the Wright Music Building.

Tickets still available for Celtic-inspired music and dance show at SFA


Champion step dancers of The StepCrew will fuse three distinct dance forms-Irish step, traditional tap and Ottawa Valley step in an energetic, Celtic-inspired performance of music and dance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

'Pen, Pigment and Metal' exhibition features SFA art and fiction


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - A collaborative project between Stephen F. Austin State University student writers and artists will culminate in the opening of "Pen, Pigment & Metal: Collaborate" at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in Griffith Gallery, located in Griffith Fine Arts Building, Room 208.

For the project, fiction-writing students, under the direction of Assistant Professor Andrew Brininstool, wrote short stories that the art metal/jewelry students, directed by Assistant Professor Lauren B. Selden, responded to by creating three-dimensional works of art.

Local violinist named concertmaster of All-State Orchestra


Violinist Payton Andrews, son of Reese and Carolyn Andrews and a student in the SFA Music Preparatory Division, recently performed in the All-State Philharmonic Orchestra as concertmaster.

SFA A Cappella Choir to perform
