SFA to present 'La Traviata' opera


Mesquite freshman Tony Dibernardo, assistant scenic designer for SFA's production of Giuseppe Verdi's "La Traviata," applies Art Nouveau elements to the scenic drops. The Schools of Music and Theatre will present the opera at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, through Saturday, April 21, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

Bright Ideas Conference to highlight SFA faculty research, scholarship and artistry


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The 2012 Bright Ideas Conference highlighting faculty research, scholarship and artistry at Stephen F. Austin State University will be held Wednesday, April 11, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

More than 80 research posters and scholarly exhibits will be on display from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom. Spotlight exhibits will be featured in the Twilight Ballroom. A reception honoring the spotlight exhibitors will begin at 4 p.m. in the Twilight Ballroom, followed by the awards ceremony.

SFA to present 'Going off to War' at Nacogdoches Railroad Depot


Lt. Col. Todd Reichert, SFA professor of military science, will give a presentation titled "Going Over There" at 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot. The presentation is part of the opening of "Going off to War: An Exhibit at the Nacogdoches Historic Depot" presented by The Center for Regional Heritage Research at Stephen F.

Orchestra of the Pines concert features Schmidbauer winner


Ying Fu, winner of the 2011 Schmidbauer International Young Artist Competition, will perform Jean Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 with the Orchestra of the Pines at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, in Cole Concert Hall.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Dr. Robert Freeman, former director of the Eastman School of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music, and former dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, will give a lecture, "The Future of Music in America," at 3 p.m. Friday, March 30, in the Music Recital Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.
