Program to feature Spanish compositions


Evgeni Raychev, SFA adjunct cello professor, will perform a program of popular musical gems in collaboration with pianist Martha de Luna, SFA graduate student, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Recital to feature music of John Williams


Chris Combest, principal tubist for the Louisville Symphony, will present a solo recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, as part of SFA's Cole Performing Arts Series.

Oberon Ensemble to perform at SFA


The Oberon Ensemble includes Colleen Matheu Johnson, flute; Kurt Johnson, violin; Rene Salazar, viola; Barrett Sills, cello; and features SFA faculty member Emily Mitchell, harp. They will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

East Texas Historical Association to mark 50th anniversary at fall meeting


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The East Texas Historical Association, headquartered on the campus of Stephen F. Austin University, will hold its annual fall meeting Sept. 27-29 at Hotel Fredonia in Nacogdoches.

The gathering will mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the association in 1962, and a number of special events are planned. The program will feature more than 100 historians making presentations on historical subjects of interest to East Texans.

SFA to host 'Walk in the Woods'


The SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host "A Walk in the Woods" from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 22 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center at 2900 Raguet St. Research associate Greg Grant will discuss several good woody plant identification books and then lead participants through the plant center grounds explaining how to identify both common and uncommon East Texas trees, like the hardwoods and evergreen trees pictured in this East Texas landscape.

Student-directed 'The Lady Aoi' to take stage at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Yukio Mishima's "The Lady Aoi" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. All performances are in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

The one-act play will be directed by Commerce senior Benn May, who is pursuing a bachelor of fine arts degree in performance with an emphasis in directing.

SFA's Griffith Gallery to host University of Dallas faculty art show


This piece by Kim Cadmus Owens, associate professor of art in painting at the University of Dallas, is among the featured work in a University of Dallas faculty exhibition opening Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Griffith Gallery in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University. The show runs through Nov. 9 and is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are from 12:30 to 5 p.m.

Nacogdoches Naturally family outdoor adventure is all about trees
