2014 SFA Homecoming Kick-Off Celebration set for Oct. 9


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The annual Stephen F. Austin State University Homecoming kickoff party will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Jack Backers College Bookstore, 315
E. College St. Appetizers and purple beverages will help kick off the month of Homecoming activities, which will culminate in Homecoming weekend Oct. 24 and 25.

SFA Homecoming Online Auction to feature specialty items


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University 2014 Homecoming Online Auction will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, as part of the Homecoming kickoff at Jack Backers College Bookstore, 315 E. College St., and conclude at 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26.

The online auction will feature various items, including a rare, custom-made SFA President Baker Pattillo bobblehead, specialty SFA items, sports tickets, destination getaways and travel packages, autographed sports memorabilia, artwork, jewelry, gift cards, and much more.

SFA music faculty member Salas to present tuba recital

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present music faculty member J.D. Salas in a tuba recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus as part of the Cole Performing Arts Series.

Chamber Orchestra Kremlin to perform in University Series


Russia's Chamber Orchestra Kremlin will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus as part of the College of Fine Arts' 2014-2015 University Series, "Connect."

Noted violinist Gogichashvili to perform concert at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts, School of Music and the Cole Performing Arts series will present Eka Gogichashvili performing a guest violin recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, in the Music Recital Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA horticulture professor begins Swiss chard trial to determine best varieties for East Texas gardens


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In the coming months, drivers traveling on East Starr Avenue will be treated to an assortment of colors ranging from deep hunter green to vibrant hot pink, and it is all in the name of science.

The colors are courtesy of 15 different Swiss chard cultivars recently planted by Dr. Jared Barnes, Stephen F. Austin State University assistant professor of horticulture, and SFA Gardens student workers as a part of a winter trial to determine what varieties perform best in East Texas.

SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature garden writer


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches. Garden writer Patty Leander will present: "Butterbeans to Asian Greens-Old Favorites and New Flavors for the Vegetable Garden."
