SFA student's film to premiere at Austin Film Festival


At SFA, a graduate student's thesis project is the crowning glory of many academic careers - an exhausting project that allows the student to demonstrate their competency before a committee of future peers. The crowning glory of Ricky Kennedy's academic career is a movie about a time machine fashioned from an Atari game system.

Though the movie has already played at two festivals, the movie will show at its first Texas festival on Saturday, at the Austin Film Festival.

SFA Alumni Association to host Homecoming Flap 'Jack' Breakfast


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will host a breakfast fit for hungry Lumberjacks from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in front of City Hall, 202 E. Pilar St., in downtown Nacogdoches.

In conjunction with the 2014 Homecoming festivities, a buffet of flapjacks and special toppings will be cooked and served by the Nacogdoches Kiwanis Club. Kids can enjoy pancake decorating, coloring books and photos with the SFA Lumberjack and Ladyjack mascots and other spirit team members.

SFA Charter School Board to meet Nov. 3


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Charter School Board will meet at noon Monday, Nov. 3, in the Elementary Education Conference room of the Janice A. Pattillo Early Childhood Research Center.

There will be a public hearing on the Schools Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, as well as a regular board meeting. The Schools FIRST hearing will address the financial report of the SFA Charter School, as determined by the Texas Education Agency.

SFA to hold Fifth Annual Lumberjack Homecoming Certified 5K


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The fifth annual Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjack Homecoming Certified 5K will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in the parking lot behind the Schlief Tennis Complex, located at the corner of Wilson Drive and Starr Avenue.

Hosted by the SFA Alumni Association and the Campus Recreation Center, the race will allow participants to run or walk the pre-designed course, which begins at the Schlief Tennis Complex and ends in downtown Nacogdoches.

Texas Tribune to host legislative discussion


The Texas Tribune will host an event with Sen. Robert Nichols and Rep. Travis Clardy from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Evan Smith, Texas Tribune CEO and editor-in-chief, will moderate the discussion with a focus on the upcoming 84th Legislative Session, followed by an audience question-and-answer session.
