SFA Hunger Jacks members, volunteers collect more than 620 items in food drive


Members of Stephen F. Austin State University's Hunger Jacks organization and volunteers collected more than 620 items during a food drive as part of the university's Martin Luther King Day of Service on Jan. 16. The collected food will be stored in the Food for Thought Food Pantry on the SFA campus, which provides supplemental, healthy food to SFA students who are experiencing food insecurities.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Two back-to-back University Series performances at Stephen F. Austin State University will bring world-class professional brass and vocal ensembles to campus.

The College of Fine Arts presents the Seraph Brass Quintet on Tuesday, Jan. 24, followed by Olga Vocal Ensemble on Thursday, Feb. 2. Both performances are at 7:30 p.m. in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Broadway artist Raines to perform concert to benefit SFA Strings Scholarship

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Ron Raines, one of America's leading Broadway artists and Nacogdoches native, will be the featured vocalist in "Ron Sings Broadway," a benefit concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, in Mast Hall in downtown Nacogdoches. Proceeds will go toward the Strings Scholarship Fund in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music.

'Romantic Quintets' recital to feature music of Dubois, Schubert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Coleidoscope at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The annual faculty chamber music recital will feature "Romantic Quintets" by composers Theodore Dubois and Franz Schubert, according to Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, associate professor of violin and viola in the School of Music and an ensemble member.

SFA music faculty Hughes to perform oboe recital

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Kerry Hughes, assistant professor of oboe at Stephen F. Austin State University, will perform a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The recital is part of the SFA School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series. Joining Hughes will be his wife, pianist Amanda Hughes, who is an active performer, accompanist and piano teacher in Tyler.

SFA Press in national spotlight for book published in 2016


The SFA Press publication "The Road to Llorona Park" was recently named among NBC News' eight great Latino books of 2016. The book also was awarded the NACCS Tejas Fiction Book Award.

Native tree seminar to be hosted by SFA Gardens


Chris Dempsey, senior garden technician for Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens, will host a public seminar aimed at teaching participants how to select, plant and prune native trees from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 28, at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.
