SFA hospitality administration senior interns in Spain


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Saying he is a people person would be an understatement. Phillip Richardson, a Stephen F. Austin State University senior hospitality administration major from Beaumont, has spent the past three months interning in Spain. Whether he is scheduling reservations, housekeeping, checking in guests, booking tours and events, or preparing breakfast, Richardson has met people from around the world while interning at Equity Point, a hostel catering to international youth travelers.

SFA's Music Preparatory Division offers scholarships


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music is accepting scholarship applications for its fall classes.

The music program features the study of a variety of musical instruments. Upper-level musicians as well as SFA faculty and students teach classes.

Work of late artist Frields featured in show, sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The "artful spirit" of Gary Frields will again be made available to admirers of the late Stephen F. Austin State University art professor when The Beautiful Gary Q. Frields Art Show & Sale takes place Aug. 4 through 27 in Reavley Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

A reception is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, hosted by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts. Half of the sale proceeds will benefit the Gary Q. Frields Art Scholarship the FVA awards annually to an SFA student.

SFA College of Fine Arts announces 2016-2017 University Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University continues its tradition of bringing professional artists to East Texas in presenting five national touring acts in the 2016-2017 University Series.

This fascinating mix of performance art features a famous British actor performing the works of a Nobel Prize-winning playwright and poet, a Celtic Christmas celebration and a Dutch vocal ensemble performing a repertoire that covers more than five centuries.

SFA to screen 'Baraka' documentary

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Internships provide valuable experience in any chosen career. But completing an internship can also be a deciding factor for a recent college graduate looking to land that big first job.

For fine arts students majoring in various areas of art and theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University, internships often take them to big cities in far-away places and open the doors to exciting experiences.

A few openings remain in Junior Jacks theatre day camp


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Junior Jacks Theatre Camp of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre is popular among area children entering third through ninth grades.

So much so that the third through sixth grades category is already filled for this summer's two-week day camp. But a few openings are available for seventh through ninth graders, according to Carolyn Conn, associate professor of theatre at SFA and the camp's director.

Junior Jacks was designed as a day-camp version of the highly successful High School Summer Theatre Workshop at SFA.
