SFA to present student-directed 'Why Do We Laugh?'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed, one-act play "Why Do We Laugh?" by Stephen Gregg at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

Directed by Houston junior Jason Trevino, "Why Do We Laugh?" is "an endearing one-act play about a lifelong love story and what it means to grow old together," according to Trevino.

SFA to screen 'Alive Inside' documentary


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Alive Inside" at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

SFA's human development and family studies program hosts event to broaden internship opportunities


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's human development and family studies program recently hosted a networking luncheon in the Culinary Café on the university's campus for representatives from community agencies interested in providing internships to SFA students.

During their senior year, SFA students in the human development and family studies program complete 200 internship hours in a practicum course. Therefore, having a network of available sites is essential to the students' and program's success.

SFA to host third annual Purple Premium Cattle Sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University will host its third annual Purple Premium Cattle Sale beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Walter C. Todd Agricultural Research Center.

The sale is planned and completed by students enrolled in Dr. Erin Brown's advanced beef science class. According to Brown, associate professor of animal science in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, students are instrumental in all aspects of the sale, from obtaining cattle consignments to sale marketing and setup.

SFA's Homecoming Nov. 4 through 6


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The annual Stephen F. Austin State University Homecoming celebration begins Friday, Nov. 4, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 6. This year's theme is "Life, Liberty and Lumberjacks."

The weekend festivities start at 11 a.m. Friday with the SFA Alumni Golf Tournament at the Piney Woods Country Club. The entry fee is $150 and includes tournament play, golf cart, refreshments, box lunch and post-tournament hors d'oeuvres.

Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Step Show


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - As part of Stephen F. Austin State University's homecoming festivities, the Office of Multicultural Affairs will host a Step Show at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

SFA Office of Multicultural Affairs to host second Brave Space Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The second Brave Space Series, created and hosted by the Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs, will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Student Affairs Commons, Room 3.201.

The series was developed to allow for open and honest discussion of difficult topics among the SFA and Nacogdoches communities. While the first touched on racial tensions and perspectives, the second series will cover LBGT issues.

Hudson Middle School Choir to perform with SFA vocal ensembles


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Choral Union and Women's Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present "Voice of the Children," featuring the Hudson Middle School Choir, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA to host Showcase Saturday for prospective students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Future college students will have the opportunity to experience a taste of campus life during a free, action-packed open-house Saturday, Nov. 12, at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

Prospective students will have the opportunity to visit with university faculty and staff members, tour the campus and residence halls, and preview academic programs during the SFA Showcase Saturday event.

Texas Archeological Society to hold annual meeting at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Customarily held in large, metropolitan areas such as Houston, Austin and Dallas-Fort Worth, the 87th annual meeting of the Texas Archeological Society will be held in Nacogdoches this year and hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University Oct. 28 through 30 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

This year's meeting will be the second time the Oldest Town in Texas has hosted the event. The first time was in 1995. Nacogdoches' selection as the conference host correlates with the city's celebration of its 300th anniversary.
