NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Vendor booth spaces are still available for the fourth annual Día de los Muertos Fiesta slated for 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, in downtown Nacogdoches in and around The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University voice students will present a program of musical theatre and opera scenes in a performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The "Fall Scenes Program" will feature students enrolled in the Opera Workshop class taught by Dr. Gene Moon, director of orchestras and musical director of opera, Dr. Scott LaGraff, professor of voice at SFA, and Dr. Deborah Dalton, associate professor of voice and director of opera.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Braille and Cane Club will host a White Cane Day parade and activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, on the university campus in honor of National White Cane Safety Day.

The day celebrates the growing independence and self-sufficiency of people who are blind in America, and also works to recognize the white cane as the symbol of independence and self-reliance, according to the National Federation of the Blind's website.

Laura Kiefer, SFA Braille and Cane Club president, is coordinating the event.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will host the El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail Association's annual membership and board meeting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Cole Art Center.

Nacogdoches County Judge Mike Perry and Carl Watson, executive director of the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau, will welcome attendees.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will host a free screening of the film "Dead Man Walking" at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the art center located at 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

The screening leads up to the "Faith and Justice: Exploring the Crisis of Empathy" conference hosted by the Organization for Faith, Education and Community scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Register to vote during run of 'Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson'

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Those who are not registered to vote in the Nov. 8 general election may do so when they attend the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's production of the emo rock musical "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson."

The Ladyjack mascot, a female counterpart to SFA's Lumberjack mascot, is returning to SFA athletic events after a two-year hiatus.

Elizabeth Simoneaux, a senior dance major from League City, will perform at football games and at Ladyjack basketball and volleyball games. She also will participate in the national cheer competitions in Daytona, Florida, this spring.

"I am so excited to be this year's Ladyjack," Simoneaux said on her Facebook page. "This journey has been exciting and has introduced me to some fabulous people."

Austin State University Lumberjack football team prepares for the Battle of the Piney Woods Saturday, Oct. 1, at NRG Stadium in Houston, it is important that fans also take preparatory steps to ensure they are in compliance with new rules governing the types of purses and bags that may be brought into the stadium.
