NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Reservations are still being accepted to attend the “Oklahoma!” preview and fundraiser presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and SFA Culinary Café from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the café on the SFA campus.

“What a great way to support the cast and crew of ‘Oklahoma!’ while enjoying a delicious lunch at the Culinary Café,” said Angela Bacarisse, professor of theatre and director of “Oklahoma!”

A funeral service for Bradley Jimmerson will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Johnson Coliseum on the SFA campus.

Jimmerson, a deputy with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, died Friday, Oct. 5, when he was struck by two vehicles on U.S. 259 north of Nacogdoches, after being dispatched to remove debris from the highway.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — For the first time in the chapter’s decades-long history, the Stephen F. Austin State University student chapter of the Society of American Foresters clinched the national title of Society of American Foresters Quiz Bowl Champions, defeating 32 collegiate teams from across the U.S. during this year’s national convention held in Portland, Oregon.

“It’s very rewarding to see the early morning practices, as well as the hard work and persistence finally pay off,” said Dr. Rebecca Kidd, assistant professor of forestry at SFA and SAF faculty advisor.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The East Texas Restaurant Association is donating $12,000 in scholarship funds to Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in the hospitality administration program.

These funds will supplement two scholarships, which are annually awarded to SFA hospitality administration students.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — On a recent trip to Arizona, Dr. Flora Farago, assistant professor in Stephen F. Austin State University’s human development and family studies program, officially began an organization that will help girls thousands of miles away in Kenya.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “From Dawn to Dusk,” a program of works that features music by Viet Cuong.

Cuong, a rising composer, will be in-residence with the SFA bands in mid-October, just prior to this concert, which is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. The program will also showcase Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone at SFA, as soloist.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s online special education and English as a second language master’s degrees were ranked among the top 25 best value online degrees in their respective categories by Optimal, a resource that helps prospective students make informed, data-driven decisions to improve their collegiate experience and their post-college careers.

In addition, SFA’s educational leadership, secondary education and special education master’s degrees were listed among the top 25 most affordable online degrees in their respective categories.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Attorney and ceramicist Chris Balch of Atlanta, Georgia, will visit the Stephen F. Austin State University campus to deliver a lecture on art and the law at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Room 106 of the Art Building.
