NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s campus recreation and alumni association will host the ninth annual Homecoming 5K beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, on the SFA campus near the new Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Building located off Clark Boulevard.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Concert pianist Kevin Ayesh will perform at Stephen F. Austin State University at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in Cole Concert Hall as part of the SFA Friends of Music Concert Series.

Ayesh, who has presented concerts and master classes throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Hong Kong, will present a varied program featuring the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Fauré and Frédéric Chopin.

Austin State University’s SFA Gardens for a free outdoor family day featuring archery, the Survival Supermarket and guided plant identification hikes led by students from the National Association of Interpretation, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.  

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed play “Trifles” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

Macy Rhodes, a senior theatre major from Center Point, directs the one-act play written by Susan Glaspell. It explores the psychological differences between men and women, their social roles, isolation and perceived justice.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces at Stephen F. Austin State University have “Something For Everyone” in store when the jazz bands perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

In the bands’ first concert of the fall semester, Axes Director Dr. Deb Scott and Aces Director Dr. J.D. Salas have planned a varied program that ranges from traditional swing to Latin tunes to old jazz standards and guarantees the concert theme: “Something For Everyone.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will partner with the Nacogdoches Public Library and its NEA Big Read Nacogdoches project to present a screening of a new William Shakespeare film adaptation by Casey Wilder Mott.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

SFA horticulture alumnus Dr. Andrew King will present, “You Can Take the Boy out of East Texas, but You Can’t Take the Azaleas Out of His Garden: Growing Ornamentals in a Challenging Environment.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Geology will join the American Geosciences Institute in celebrating Earth Science Week during an event from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, on the third floor of the Miller Science Building.

For the open house event, visitors who have minerals, rocks or fossils they would like to have identified are encouraged to bring them for a free identification service. Guests also will have the opportunity to use an augmented reality sand table and create their own artwork.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University and the Tyler Independent School District Head Start program will launch their new partnership with a celebration at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at the St. Louis Early Childhood Center, located at 2800 Walton Road in Tyler. This celebration is open to the public.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble will perform its first concert of the semester when the student ensemble presents “The Music of Viet Cuong” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Described as “alluring” and “wildly inventive” by The New York Times, composer Cuong’s music has been performed on six continents, according to Dr. David Campo, director of SFA bands and the Wind Ensemble. Cuong is a visiting composer in the SFA School of Music.
