NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s dance program will showcase senior choreographic works during its production of Danceworks: “You”phoria, which premieres at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the HPE Complex Dance Studio, Room 201, on the university’s campus.

Additional showings are scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16. Admission is free for SFA students. Tickets cost $5 for non-SFA students and children; $8 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $10 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Several Stephen F. Austin State University computer accounts were compromised and used maliciously to send emails with offensive content, and some grades were changed for students in the College of Sciences and Mathematics. SFA officials are aware of this situation and have taken action to stop the unauthorized use of these accounts.

SFA takes the security of its systems very seriously and will continue to investigate this incident until it is resolved.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Collaboration among theatre, music and dance programs at Stephen F. Austin State University will bring the beloved musical “Oklahoma!” to life Nov. 6 though 10 in SFA’s W.M. Turner Auditorium.

The innovative musical, based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, “Green Grow the Lilacs,” is the first musical written by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The original Broadway production opened in 1943, and the musical earned Rodgers and Hammerstein the Pulitzer Prize in 1944.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — For the fourth consecutive year, the Sylvans, Stephen F. Austin State University’s timbersports team, won the collegiate portion of the Arkansas State Lumberjack Competition held during the 35th annual Timberfest festival in Sheridan, Arkansas.

“It was by far the Sylvans’ most dominant victory during the past four years of Timberfest competitions,” said Dr. Jeremy Stovall, associate professor of forestry and faculty advisor for the Sylvans.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The first concert for the Women’s and Men’s Choirs at Stephen F. Austin State University will feature the theme of “Mars and Venus” when the two choirs perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Dr. Tod Fish, associate director of choral activities for the SFA School of Music, chose the theme “because it is the inaugural concert for the Women’s and Men’s Choirs as completely separate entities,” he said.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Refined, a biennial exhibition of jewelry and metalwork hosted by the art metals program in the School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University, will open with a reception at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in Reavley Gallery in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

Juror for Refined Art Metals/Jewelry Competition and Exhibition is Perry A. Price, executive director of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in Houston. Price will give a lecture at 5:15 p.m. prior to the reception.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s online master’s degree in educational leadership has been named one of the best programs of its kind in the nation.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Computer Science will host a lecture by Brian Warwick, Texas Children’s Hospital application architect, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Math Building, Room 101.

Warwick received his Bachelor of Business Administration from SFA and will present “Improving Lives and Changing Healthcare with Computer Science,” giving insight into the advancements taking place in the health care industry with the help of computer science.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University and its art galleries will present an exhibition of works by artist Kymia Nawabi Oct. 25 through Dec. 30 in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Austin State University will offer the SFA and Nacogdoches communities an opportunity to attend the Tunnel of Oppression interactive museum, which spotlights different forms of oppression through theater and multimedia presentations.
