Volunteer seamstresses expand effort to include protective gowns for health care workers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – It began a couple of weeks ago with an offer by Stephen F. Austin State University theatre faculty to sew surgical mask coverings for medical professionals on the front lines of battling the spread of COVID-19 in Nacogdoches County.

SFA students win top honors at statewide ecology symposium


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Three Stephen F. Austin State University students received first place honors for their research presentations at the annual Ecological Integration Symposium.

Jordan Griffin and Zachary Hutchens, both SFA biology majors, won first place in the symposium-wide undergraduate poster contest for their project investigating potential impacts of the non-native Sheepshead minnow on the Red River Pupfish, a species native to Texas.

SFA art students plan photo booth for Día de los Muertos


Photography students at Stephen F. Austin State University will sponsor a pop-up photo booth at the Día de los Muertos festival on Nov. 3 in downtown Nacogdoches.

Students will provide lighting and a backdrop set up outside the Cole Art Center, 320 E. Main St., to make professional quality portraits of costumed festival participants and print the photos on site.

College of Fine Arts students, groups to participate in Día de los Muertos Fiesta


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A number of exciting events, including an art auction, a film screening and the popular community altar display, will take place at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in conjunction with the annual Día de los Muertos Fiesta on Saturday, Nov. 3, in downtown Nacogdoches. Other College of Fine Arts students and organizations at Stephen F. Austin State University will also participate in the fiesta.

SFA’s Madrigal Singers to perform music of love, passion


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Madrigal Singers at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Music of the Heart,” a program featuring choral music of love and passion, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The concert will include works by Morten Lauridsen, Cyrillus Kreek, Clément Janequin, Thomas Morley, John Dowland, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Jacques Arcadelt and others.

SFA to screen ‘Everybody Street’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary “Everybody Street” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

SFA to present student-directed ‘The Women of Lockerbie’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present Deborah Brevoort’s full-length play “The Women of Lockerbie” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Nov. 3, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

SFA’s Friends of Music Series to present saxophone, piano faculty recital


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty member Nathan Nabb and collaborative accompanist Hyun Ji Oh will present a saxophone and piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Danceworks: ‘You’phoria production to feature SFA senior choreographic pieces


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s dance program will showcase senior choreographic works during its production of Danceworks: “You”phoria, which premieres at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the HPE Complex Dance Studio, Room 201, on the university’s campus.

Additional showings are scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16. Admission is free for SFA students. Tickets cost $5 for non-SFA students and children; $8 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $10 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

SFA investigating unauthorized emails


Several Stephen F. Austin State University computer accounts were compromised and used maliciously to send emails with offensive content, and some grades were changed for students in the College of Sciences and Mathematics. SFA officials are aware of this situation and have taken action to stop the unauthorized use of these accounts.

SFA takes the security of its systems very seriously and will continue to investigate this incident until it is resolved.
