Tickets to Danú’s Celtic Christmas celebration make unique gift


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Looking for a unique Christmas gift for that someone special? Tickets are still available to a holiday performance of the internationally acclaimed professional Irish ensemble Danú at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Danu´ will celebrate the festive season at SFA with Celtic music in “Fe´ile Na Nollag” (A Christmas Gathering) as a highlight of the SFA College of Fine Arts’ 2016-17 University Series.

Prominent donors, faculty members recognized during 28th annual SFA Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Four Stephen F. Austin State University donors were honored during the SFA Gala held recently at the university.

This year's honorees include the Bone Hill Foundation and Kathy and Robert Lehmann, who were inducted into the Stephen F. Austin Society. Mattress Firm and Elvin “Buddy” and Tommie Jan Lowery were inducted into the Fredonia Society.

In a country comprising land predominantly situated at or below sea level, the threat of large-scale wildland fires has, for centuries, been viewed as an unfamiliar concept. However, a changing climate and increase in temperatures has caused this once-distant notion to rise to the forefront of management concerns for public safety agencies across the Netherlands.

‘Kent Rush: Photo-Syntax’ to feature photographs, drawings, prints


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The work of artist Kent Rush will be showcased in an exhibition that displays Jan. 20 through March 10 in Griffith Gallery on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Black and white photographs, drawings and prints are featured in “Kent Rush: Photo-Syntax,” curated by Neal Cox, faculty member in the SFA School of Art, who describes Rush as his mentor.

SFA’s Music Prep announces December recital schedule


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Music Preparatory Division in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music has announced its fall recital schedule.

A number of performances will take place beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the performance hall of the Music Prep House, 3028 Raguet St. The afternoon concerts will feature guitar students of Chance Moore, cello students of Kate Hire, harp student of Emily Mitchell, voice students of Charlotte Davis and violin/fiddle students of Emily Williams.

SFA speech-language pathology graduate student receives scholarship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Rebecca Jordy, a speech-language pathology graduate student from Stephen F. Austin State University, was awarded the East Texas Regional Speech, Language and Hearing scholarship for her academic and clinical excellence and leadership abilities.

“I was completely surprised. I’ve been at SFA for four years, so winning a scholarship after graduate school is a huge blessing,” Jordy said. “It’s a big accomplishment to know that the program thinks I’m worthy of receiving this recognition.”

Pre-Law Academy at SFA introduces high school students to multifaceted law careers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Scanning the crime scene, dozens of high school students search for clues in a mock case. Displaced clothing and picture frames litter the floor. Could this be the sign of a struggle?  

Last week, Stephen F. Austin State University hosted its fourth annual Pre-Law Academy. During this weeklong program hosted by SFA’s Division of Multidisciplinary Programs, high school students with an interest in law engaged in hands-on activities to better understand the field.
