NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Piney Woods Camerata at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a holiday concert featuring SFA harpist Emily Mitchell at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The ensemble is made up of string faculty and students at SFA with Geneva Fung, staff accompanist, as harpsichordist.

The concert will feature mostly Baroque concertos that are also Christmas concertos, composed especially for the season, according to Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, associate professor of violin and viola and ensemble member.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Celtic music all the way from Ireland will signal the opening of the Christmas holiday at Stephen F. Austin State University when the College of Fine Arts presents a special performance of the internationally acclaimed professional ensemble Danú at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus as part of its 2016-17 University Series.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Rockin’ Axes at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “The Sounds of the ’80s” when the two student ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Andrew Sperandeo, director of the Rockin’ Axes groups, chose a theme that chronologically followed popular music through the decades because he wanted his students to experience “great music and great artists.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Artwork created by Gary Frields, an artist and former Stephen F. Austin State University professor of art who passed away in 2013, has been on exhibit in SFA’s Culinary Café throughout the fall semester. A closing reception will be held for the exhibit from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Culinary Café, located in the Education Annex, Room 121.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A Stephen F. Austin State University music composition student is bringing international attention to his work and SFA.

Tyler sophomore Jesse Edwards will soon have one of his compositions premiered at the 2016 Alfred Schnittke International Composers’ Forum and Competition in Lviv, Ukraine. His woodwind quintet, “Saturday Afternoon,” will be performed Dec. 7 in the concert hall of the Lviv Philharmonic Society.
