A message from the dean, Dr. Gary Wurtz

The Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts at SFA has two main missions. First, we are here to provide a world-class education to students who aspire to pursue careers in the arts. Students who are passionate about becoming educators, filmmakers, actors, sound recording engineers, graphic artists, playwrights, composers, costume designers, performers, studio artists, or an array of other possibilities will find that SFA is an ideal place to pursue their dreams. Our esteemed faculty have studied, trained, performed, exhibited, taught and presented around the globe, positioning them as experts and authorities in their respective disciplines. The truth is that a university is its faculty and students, and those two things are why the Elliott College of Fine Arts is so fantastic.

Another role for the Elliott College of Fine Arts is that we serve as a cultural hub for our Deep East Texas community. We welcome, and even depend on, guests to come to our campus and enjoy our performances and exhibitions.

Thanks to the vision and commitment of the university to the fine arts, in the fall of 2023 we will take up residence in our new $50 million fine arts building that will feature two new theatre performance venues, two dance studios, state of the art sound recording studios and a soundstage, a renovated main performance hall, and numerous classrooms, studios and student spaces.

The future is bright for fine arts at SFA. Explore our website to see what's going on, then come to the campus and be a part of it.
