Exemption applies to tuition for 10 semesters.

Eligibility

Eligible students are those who:

  • are 25 years of age or younger
  • is a resident of Texas
  • has not yet earned a bachelor's degree
  • is enrolled at SFA, where their parent is currently employed or with which the parent has contracted, either as a professional nursing faculty or staff member
  • and registers for the Selective Service (or is exempt from this requirement).

Additionally, at the beginning or during the semester or other academic term for which an exemption is sought, the student's parent must:

  • hold a master's or doctoral degree in nursing
    • and be employed full-time by SFA's DeWitt School of Nursing with duties that include teaching, performing research, serving as an administrator or performing other professional services other than serving as a teaching assistant.
  • or hold a bachelor's degree in nursing
    • and be employed by SFA's DeWitt School of Nursing as a full-time teaching assistant.

Continuation requirements

If on the completion of any semester or term you fail to meet the GPA requirements described in SFA's policy regarding eligibility for financial aid or have reached the excessive hour rule limits, you may not receive the exemption for the next semester or term in which you enroll.

How to apply

Upload the exemption application and a letter from SFA's Human Resources confirming your parent's employment using the directions below. When prompted, select "Other Exemption."

  1. Using your mySFA credentials to log in, visit the document upload page.
  2. Select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu.
  3. Upload the documentation.
